Learn Thai with me ♥️ Self-paced program is NOW available at my website Thaiwithsarah.com I’ve been on YouTube since late July 2019 and consistently producing over 100 videos on a variety of topics. I’ve covered the concept of greng jai เกรงใจ, màn-sâi หมั่นไส้, sǐn sɔ̀ɔt (Sin Sod) สินสอด or Thai dowry, and etc. I also love playing piano and singing so I made some videos for Thai songs for thos

e who find music as a fun part of learning the language and one of those is Thai national anthem–the video that I’m the most proud of as a Thai national. While I enjoy giving private lessons, I am also hoping to teach bigger groups of students because to me teaching is about creating an impact in the community and so teaching on YouTube, page, and TikTok is something that allows me to achieve that goal at a larger scale.

Killing the whole team of lawyers? 🤣 The word ฆ่า (to kill) is pronounced the same as ค่า (fee). They are homophones. And that's why the texts in the photo are quite funny lol......

1️⃣ ค่า kâa = fee, expense

2️⃣ ฆ่า kâa = to kill

☑️ ทนาย (ทะ-นาย) tá~naai = lawyer
✅ ฆ่าทนาย kâa-tá~naai = to kill a lawyer/lawyers
= to kill the team of lawyers 😂
👉 ทีมงาน tiim-ngaan = team
I'm sure it was meant to be ค่า as in fee
✅ ค่าทนาย kâa-tá~naai = lawyer's fee

🚨 *ค่าเทอม kâa-təəm is more for formal education while *ค่าเรียน kâa-riian is more for private classes or extracurricular activities.

🔔 เทอม təəm comes from "term." And yes, เทอม is one of the three words for เ-อ that keeps the full form of the vowel.

3️⃣สาร is pronounced the same as 4️⃣ศาล
ร and ล sounds the same as a final (sounds like น)

สาร sǎan = substance, message
ศาล sǎan = court

ข้าวสาร kâo-sǎan🌾 means "uncooked rice."

เดินทางไปศาล dəən-taang bpai sǎan = travel to court.

ได้ดูโหนกระแสกันยังคะ 😄 I saw a video shared by one of my FB friends yesterday. A Thai woman allegedly caught her husband cheating, recorded the confrontation on her phone, and posted it online. The video was only up for about a day before it was taken down, but by then it had already around 77 million views...🤯

👩 She also appeared on โหนกระแส (a popular Thai show Hone-Krasae) today to tell her side of the story.

I remember seeing someone comment, "She should go on โหนกระแส and one day later, she actually did!

As dramatic as this story is, what caught my attention was actually the legal side of it.

This case actually touches on two different areas of Thai law.

❤️ The first is family law in relation to when someone's married and their spouse has an affair.

🎥 The second is online publication (defamation + cyber law). Even if you catch someone doing something wrong, you can't just record them and post the video online. There could be legal consequences.

Thai law isn't always as straightforward as people think. I'll break down both ares of Thai law later this week (potentially tomorrow) kaaaa. Stay tuned!

So I took the Christian oath in court yesterday... Then after the witness hearing was over, I realized there was also an oath for atheists or spiritual people. 😅 It was literally on the other side of the laminated sheet.

If I remember it right, that version wasn't available before. I saw a discussion among Thai lawyers and clients that there wasn't one.

Anyway, I decided to go for the Christian one because I was a Christian before becoming spiritual. It reads:

Let's break it down kaaaaaa 👩‍🏫

🌿 ข้าพเจ้า kâa-pà~jâo = formal "I"

kâa-pà~jâo kɔ̌ɔ sǎa-baan dton dtɔ̀ɔ prá-yee-suu-jâo wâa
= I hereby swear before Jesus Christ that

kâa-pà~jâo jà bə̀ək-kwaam dtɔ̀ɔ sǎan dûuai kwaam-sàt-jing táng-sîn
= I will give testimony before the Court with the whole truth

hàak kâa-pà~jâo nam kwaam-tét maa glàao mɛ́ɛ-dtɛ̀ɛ-nɔ́ɔi
= If I make any false statement, even in the slightest

kɔ̌ɔ pá~yan-dtà~raai lɛ́ɛ kwaam-wí-bàt táng-bpuung jong bang-gə̀ət gɛ̀ɛ kâa-pà~jâo dooi-plan
= May all dangers and misfortunes befall me immediately

hàak kâa-pà~jâo glàao kwaam-jing dtɔ̀ɔ sǎan
= If I tell the truth before the Court

kɔ̌ɔ-hâi kâa-pà~jâo jong bprà~sòp dtɛ̀ɛ kwaam-sùk kwaam-jà~rəən
= May I experience only happiness and prosperity

As you can see, the oath is quite frightening for anyone who intends to lie. Of course, I told the truth in court yesterday, and I am confident that only happiness and prosperity will come my way kaaaaaa 😊

👩‍⚖️ The English version I posted earlier this week sounds much softer compared to the oath I actually took in court yesterday:

“The evidence that I shall give to the court shall be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. So help me God.”

After going through the witness hearing, I realized how serious the oath really is. There were a few statements from the other side that, to me, did not seem consistent with the truth or the evidence presented. I am not saying this to shame anyone, but it genuinely made me curious about what the consequences are when someone gives testimony under oath that may not be truthful here.

I was on the witness stand for over an hour. My boyfriend was also there to support me. ❤️ The whole witness hearing lasted about two and a half hours.

When I said the phrase “I am not a lawyer,” there was one word that wasn’t supposed to be there. Did you catch that?

ไม่ใช่ mâi-chai OR ไม่ได้เป็น mâi-dâai-bpen is a correct version for is, am, are + not. In this case, I use it to mean "I'm not."

We don’t say ไม่ใช่เป็น mâi-châi bpen 😄

There were 5 people assuming I was a lawyer and some of them asked me where the mediation room is 🤣

I am going to court* tomorrow (July 7, 2026) for the witness hearing, where I will be testifying. 👩‍⚖️ It will be my first time testifying on the stand in Thailand.

I did go to court a few times back in 2011 in Vancouver, but that was as an interpreter (not a certified one, though), not as a witness.

I am now spiritual, but I have chosen to take the Christian oath because Christianity was my faith before I became spiritual. This is also because there’s no oath in Thai specifically for spirituality.

I was hoping to take the English version because it feels the closest to my current beliefs, but as a Thai citizen, I understand that might not be an option.

The English version reads:

“The evidence that I shall give to the court shall be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. So help me God.”

*I am the plaintiff in a civil case involving an unpaid debt of 103,992 Thai baht (plus interest 5% per year).

✅ โจทก์ jòot = plaintiff
Thai number for 7
✅ กรกฎาคม gà~rá-gà~daa-kom = July
Thai number for 2569

Before I decided to file the lawsuit, I made peace with the situation. I told myself that if I got the money back, great. If not, I would accept it, let go of the outcome, and move on.

MY DAD always taught me to do my best and do what needs to be done, then let go of the result. That way, we don’t become so attached to the outcome or carry unnecessary stress. But the key is that you have to do your best first. ☺️

He also told me since I was little how important it is to have a good understanding of the law. I took his advice to heart. While I’m not a lawyer, I have a good understanding of both Canadian and Thai labour law.

I will share more about the oath I am taking later this week. It’s interesting that the Christian one is not much different from the Buddhist one. 😄
