anthem–the video that I’m the most proud of as a Thai national. While I enjoy giving private lessons, I am also hoping to teach bigger groups of students because to me teaching is about creating an impact in the community and so teaching on YouTube, page, and TikTok is something that allows me to achieve that goal at a larger scale.

สุขสันต์ sùk-sǎn = Happy (as in wishing)
วัน wan = day
แม่ mɛ̂ɛ = mom
ค่าาาาาาา kâaaaaaa = my signature “kaaaaaaa”

I just taught this word today in my private lesson and find it very interesting--คอขาดบาดตาย Let's break it down!

คอ kɔɔ = neck
ขาด kàat = to miss, lack, to be torn
In this case, คอขาด kɔɔ-kàat means neck is gone
บาด bàat = to cut, wound
ตาย dtaai = to die, dead

Together คอขาดบาดตาย /kɔɔ-kàat-baat-dtaai/ means "matter of life and death" and 1️⃣
it's usually used with เรื่อง rʉ̂ʉang (matter, subject). We usually use เรื่องคอขาดบาดตาย /rʉ̂ʉang kɔɔ-kàat-baat-dtaai/ -- to mean "a very serious matter."

For example:

✅ ฮะ (or หาาา) เลิกกันด้วยเรื่องแค่นี้เหรอ
ไม่ใช่เรื่องคอขาดบาดตายเลย
há, lə̂ək-gan dûuai rʉ̂ʉang-kɛ̂ɛ-níi rə̌ə?
mâi-châi rʉ̂ʉang kɔɔ-kàat-bàat-dtaai ləəi
= What?!? They broke up because of this trivial matter? It wasn't something serious (that would break people up) at all.

2️⃣ Another way to use this phrase is to use it with the phrase จะ........ยังไงก็ (ตาม) to mean "No matter what" or "at all costs."

For example:
✅ จะคอขาดบาดตายยังไง ก็ต้องทำให้เสร็จคืนนี้
jà kɔɔ-kàat-bàat-dtaai yang-ngai,
gɔ̂ɔ dtɔ̂ng tam hâi sèt kʉʉn-níi
= No matter what, you/we/I have to get it done
tonight.

Also, คอ /kɔɔ/ and /ขาด/ kàat demonstrate alliteration because they share the same beginning sound, while ขาด /kàat/ and บาด /bàat/ rhyme—Making it easy to memorize!

You can try make a sentence using this phrase and I'll let you know if it's correct kaaaaa 😁 Probably for intermediate levels because you need to know enough words and structures to combine and be able to use this phrase accordingly. However, beginners can try, too! I'll correct your sentence for you kaaaa 😄

I got asked about the exam for PERMANENT RESIDENCY (PR) in Thailand. I've actually worked with a few students preparing for this and I have seen the questions predicted to be used in the exam and also have learned from my students themselves what they were asked. I'd also like for you to be careful of scams or some people who claim that they can help you in a short period of time (a few weeks to a few months). Speaking a second language is not something you can pick up over night or even a few months. It definitely takes time unless you're a natural, talented, or a polyglot yourself.

I'd also like to note that I'm not even sure how strict they are when it comes to the scores, but from what I heard, it's pretty easy to pass because they focus on the practical skills and so if there's a chance you're going to pass it, it's probably not from any guru's help anyway, but because it's "that easy." And yes, all of the students I worked with passed the exam. Anyhow, I'm just going to share my take on how I disagree with that kind of claim.

1️⃣ There are variations of the questions in the exam. Just like English, the question "Where are you from?" can be asked in so many ways. You need to know those variations in Thai. I remember asking some people "What brought you to Bangkok?" And they didn't get it so I had to change to "Why did you come to Bangkok?." That's exactly what the interviewer will do--Changing to a simpler structure or vocabulary words until you get it (hopefully you will lol).

2️⃣ You can't just memorize phrases like a parrot 🦜 unless you are an AI yourself or have a superpower for rote-learning. Imagine trying to remember something that has no structures, no logic, no correlations in your brain in a short period of time. How would that work for you? Even kids, they need to absorb those sounds for a few years to be able to understand and communicate.

Understanding one sentence in Thai needs your understanding of the structure, Thai sounds, and familiarity with them. It's a thought process, it's not happening over night and it takes practice.

3️⃣ If you have learned some basics and can speak to some degree, then yes, it's possible to polish it and master to the point that you can answer the interview questions. But if you know ZERO Thai, expect to waste your money with those so-called gurus or tutors.

4️⃣ I never made any FALSE promises or CLAIMS that I could help anyone pass the exam 100%. I always asked them first--How long have you been speaking/learning Thai and how familiar are you with the Thai sounds? There are BIG differences in those sounds and if you don't know those, there's a high chance you won't understand Thai from native Thai speakers and they also might not understand you.

5️⃣ The questions are quite easy (not complicated or require you to articulate) and relatable and the interviewers don't care so much about your pronunciation as long as they understand you. However, if your tones and vowels are totally off, no Thais would understand you. But before you can understand any simple questions, you need to understand Thai people talking in general.

6️⃣ You don't need Thai script to pass the exam unless your pronunciation is really bad, then you need Thai script and more time to improve how you speak. It's just the truth. You don't need Thai script if I can understand most of what you say--you can get away with it just fine just to pass the exam.

I hope this clears up the confusion. Business Thai, preparation for Permanent Residency are NOT DIFFERENT from learning basics and foundations of the language. How can you expect to go all the way up by skipping all the steps and foundations? I don't think broken Thai will get you that far. Good pronunciation also matters and helps facilitate the communication (especially when negotiating in business), but it's not the main focus for the exam AS LONG AS they understand you kaaaaaaa

Okay, so what I've gathered about "Don't Thai to me" is:
1️⃣ Some people said it's been around for years. "Thai" rhymes with "lie"
2️⃣ Some people said it's from someone who says "lying is part of our culture so don't blame politicians for lying."

Either way, it's just not good lol... I wouldn't be offended, though. I would just laugh if someone says this to me as an insult 😅

The phrase word ฮีลใจ /hiiu-jai/ has been around for a quite while now and we use it to mean "to heal" or to describe something as "therapeutic." Mostly we use ฮีลใจ in romantic relationship contexts.

ฮีล /hiiu/ - to heal (loanword from English)
ใจ /jai/ - heart ❤️
Both words have a mid tone.

We use this phrase in Thai to only refer to mental state, not like "heal" in English that can also be used for physical wounds or cuts.

For example ✅
☝️ เพลงฮีลใจ
/pleeng hiiu-jai/
= A song that helps you heal (from a breakup)

☝️หมอดูฮีลใจ
/mɔ̌ɔ-duu hiiu-jai/
= A fortune teller who is believed to help predict a future that helps you heal (not sure how that works lol) OR can also comfort you while revealing your future.

☝️ไปทะเลช่วยฮีลใจได้เยอะมาก
/bpai tá~lee chûuai hiiu-jai dâai yə́ mâak/
= Going to the beach really helps
heal my heart.

☝️เวลาอกหัก เวลาจะช่วยฮีลใจได้
/wee-laa òk-hàk, wee-laa jà chûuai hiiu-jai
dâai/
= When being heartbroken,
time can help heal.

Why do you need to learn ร sound (Thai R), even though we pronounce with ล sound (Thai L)?

1️⃣ Because for formal speech, you will hear ร (Thai R) rolled properly.
2️⃣ Because Thais still write 99.99% of the words with ร (Thai R) with ร (Thai R) even though we pronounce with ล (Thai L)

So you need to know how ร is pronounced for both formal (as its actual sound) and how it is pronounced in everyday life. Good news is—In casual, informal speech, you don’t have to roll your tongue at all. That’s good news but that doesn’t mean you won’t get to hear it rolled properly ever in your life. MC, even Pretty (Thai models at events), and TV/radio anchors roll/trill R ร very clearly and sometimes a bit too much 🤣

Public speakers are also trained to do that and to Thais it sounds more sophisticated and professional to do so.
