ĐÀ NẴNG — Police in the central city of Đà Nẵng on Tuesday said they have initiated criminal proceedings against an Australian national identified as L.S.G., 35, on suspicion of causing public disorder.

Earlier on May 30, L.S.G. turned violent at a café on Lê Hồng Phong Street, Hải Châu Ward, following a minor dispute with another customer, according to the police.

The suspect smashed another customer's mobile phone before using a wooden chair to destroy a series of items, shouting and overturning furniture at the bar area and throughout the premises.

The behaviour caused panic among customers and staff, who fled into the street.

L.S.G. then stormed up to the mezzanine floor, kicked open a door, continued to destroy property and restrained a young man who was present in the café.

The suspect only stopped when authorities arrived.

L.S.G.'s family, speaking to Australian media, believe he was suffering from a bipolar episode at the time.

The family said that L.S.G. had been living with bipolar disorder for a decade but had not had an attack for three years.

The incident seriously disturbed public order, disrupted the business operations of the establishment and drew large crowds on Lê Hồng Phong Street that night.

Initial damage has been assessed at close to VNĐ383 million (US$14,500), including multiple mobile phones, laptops, tablet computers and other belongings of customers.

During the investigation, police collected footage from security cameras that recorded the entire sequence of events.

Authorities are continuing to assess the full extent of the damage to determine liability for the destruction of property.

Notably, the Đà Nẵng City Police stated that L.S.G. showed signs of resistance and lack of cooperation during the investigation.

Chinese-Singaporean tourist throws beer bottle at local business operator 🍾

A Chinese-Singaporean tourist reportedly caused a disturbance in Chiang Mai, Thailand by playing loud music on a portable Bluetooth speaker and throwing a beer bottle at a local business operator.

The incident occurred at 1.30pm on June 2 in the Night Bazaar area, specifically in the McDonald's alley along Chang Khlan Road in Mueang Chiang Mai district.

Radio communications centre officials from the Chiang Mai Provincial Police Headquarters received a report regarding a foreign tourist, suspected to be intoxicated, playing extremely loud music and assaulting a business operator.

When the Thai operator approached the tourist to request that the volume be lowered, the individual responded by hurling a beer bottle, causing minor injuries.

Patrol officers from the Mueang Chiang Mai Police Station quickly arrived at the scene to control the situation and found the tourist still acting aggressively.

During negotiations with the police, the tourist claimed to be a Chinese-Singaporean visiting Thailand and asked the injured operator how much money was wanted as compensation for the incident.

The business operator declined any compensation and stated that there was no desire to press charges since the physical injuries sustained were only minor.

Instead of seeking damages, the operator simply requested that the tourist turn off the loud music and leave the area to stop disturbing others.

Police officers attempted to negotiate with the tourist and invited the individual to the police station for further questioning, but the request was refused.

The disruptive tourist eventually walked away from the scene after noticing the presence of the law enforcement officers, which helped calm the aggressive behaviour.

The business operator informed the police that the hot weather combined with alcohol consumption likely triggered the outburst and reiterated that no further legal action would be pursued.

British tourist arrested after barefoot street rampage in Thailand 🚨

A 24-year-old British tourist named Hamish Lockhart Birnie Brown was arrested in Phuket after allegedly causing a public nuisance and resisting police officers during a chaotic street incident.

The shirtless tourist reportedly sparked alarm along a busy street on June 2 by challenging passers-by to a fight, climbing over fences, and wandering onto private property.

Police officers were called to the scene at around 11 am after Brown was seen blocking oncoming vehicles and behaving erratically in a popular Muay Thai training area.

When ordered to sit down by the authorities, the barefoot man instead sprawled on the pavement and obstructed traffic while repeatedly telling officers that he loved them.

Police officers were forced to use a taser to subdue the unmanageable tourist before pinning him down and tying his hands and feet with rope.

The alleged victim of his own erratic behaviour was taken into custody at Chalong Police Station and charged with intoxication, public nuisance, and resisting officers.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Chakkrapong Petchrat stated that the man had already caused panic the previous day by entering a convenience store to consume items without paying and causing disruption at the home of local residents.

The deputy superintendent noted that while the man carried no weapons, he smelled of cannabis and was unable to communicate properly.

Government officials in the country are currently seeking to outlaw recreational cannabis use by requiring medical certificates following a surge in unregulated sales across tourist areas.
