The pre-colonial writing script of the Tagalogs in the Philippines is called Baybayin. It is an ancient writing script consisting of 17 symbols that represent 14 consonants (katinig) and 3 vowels (patinig). The name "Baybayin" comes from the word "baybay," which means to spell.

The Doctrina Christiana, the first book printed in the Philippines in 1593, was transliterated into Roman letters and written in the Baybayin script to assist in the conversion of Filipinos to Christianity.

PLEASE READ OFFICIAL PUBLIC STATEMENT
SUBANEN CHANNEL

Subanen Channel would like to clarify to the public:

This platform is NOT exclusive to the Subanen dialect or the Subanen tribe alone.

While we proudly represent and uplift the Subanen identity, culture, and heritage, our mission goes beyond a single tribe. Subanen Channel exists to inform, educate, and connect people across Mindanao and the entire Philippines—including all Indigenous Peoples (IPs), communities, and even the general public.

That is why we use multiple languages such as:

• Subanen/Subanon dialect (for cultural preservation)
• Cebuano/Bisaya (for regional accessibility)
• Tagalog/Filipino (for national reach)
• English (for wider understanding and global audience)

- Language is not a limitation — it is a bridge.

Using different languages allows us to:

• Reach more people who need to hear the stories and issues of Indigenous communities
• Promote awareness, unity, and understanding across cultures
• Amplify voices not only of the Subanen, but of ALL tribes and communities in Mindanao and nationwide

Subanen Channel is a platform for:

- Cultural pride
- Truth and awareness
- Community connection
- Inclusive storytelling

So instead of questioning why different languages are used, we invite everyone to understand our purpose:

- We speak in many languages because our message is for everyone.

- We represent not just one tribe — but the shared story of many.
Palad-palad. Maraming salamat. Daghang salamat. Thank you. fansSubanen ChannelSubanen Vlog
