Starlink Internet Becomes More Difficult to Use as Time and Data Limits Are Introduced

Pajau Media
September 8, 2026

Starlink internet users in Myitkyina have recently been facing difficulties as some internet shops have shifted from a system where users paid based on their actual usage to one in which access is limited by time and data quotas, according to local residents.

After reports emerged on August 17 that changes would be made to Starlink's policy and system, some internet shops in Myitkyina reportedly began switching to a system in which users purchase internet access based on data volumes measured in gigabytes (GB).

Instead of the previous system, in which users could purchase cards for one hour, one day, one week, or one month, the system has reportedly been changed to packages such as 1GB and 12GB. The change to time-based limits has caused considerable difficulties, according to a local resident.

“Before, if you didn't use it, your balance didn't run out. Now, whether you use it or not, once the allotted time expires, it is gone. Once it runs out, you have to buy it again. It's inconvenient,” the resident said.

Therefore, the introduction of time and GB limits on internet access has reportedly increased costs for people who rely on the internet for online education, accessing information, communication, and online work.

Residents also said that since August 17, some Starlink Wi-Fi devices in Myitkyina have been shut down, leaving people to share and use only the remaining operational devices. This has also resulted in weaker internet connections, they said.

In addition to Myitkyina, Starlink Wi-Fi internet has become an important service relied upon by residents in various parts of Kachin State, where telephone and internet connections have been cut off.

Military Vessels Leaving Katha Attack Villages Along the River on Their Way to Kachin

Pajau Media
September 8, 2026

Military vessels that departed from Katha in Sagaing Region and are heading toward Kachin State have been carrying out artillery and airstrikes on villages along the river, according to sources.

This morning, September 8, four military vessels traveling upstream from Katha toward Shwegu shelled the riverbanks near Motalay and Bawsi Kone villages in Katha Township and carried out airstrikes, reportedly damaging residential houses. The number of civilian casualties or deaths is not yet known.

The military council has been continuously sending military vessels along the Ayeyarwady River to reinforce its forces in the Bhamaw area and to recapture areas it has lost.

The military has reportedly been carrying out repeated aerial bombardments of villages along the river as part of efforts to clear the route and provide security for the military vessels.

As the military vessels continue moving upstream, resistance forces have warned and urged civilians living along the Ayeyarwady River to evacuate to safer locations.

During the previous attempt to transport military supplies and weapons to Bhamaw by river, KIA and allied resistance forces attacked and destroyed the military flotilla, resulting in only seven of the 15 vessels reaching Bhamaw.

Fighting Escalates Again in Bhamaw Area

Pajau Media
September 8, 2026

Clashes between the military commission and the KIA joint forces have once again intensified in the Bhamaw area, where KIA Brigade No. 3 operates, according to sources.

The fighting between the two sides reportedly became intense again starting on the morning of September 4, following the arrival in the Bhamaw area of military vessels carrying large quantities of weapons and military equipment, food supplies, and troops for the military commission forces.

In addition to launching ground offensives, military commission forces have also carried out daily attacks using aircraft.
Since the military vessels arrived in the Bhamaw area and the military commission forces resumed attacks with large numbers of troops, the KIA has continued to defend against the offensives, and military tensions between the two sides remain high.

In addition, clashes also broke out near Zinbung Village in the Shwegu area on September 4 after military forces launched a ground offensive in the area.

Yesterday, September 7, from around 7:43 a.m. until 12:15 p.m., military aircraft conducted aerial reconnaissance and carried out at least five bombing attacks using Y-12 aircraft and fighter jets. The military then carried out at least three additional bombing attacks using fighter jets toward the Zinbung Village area.

It is also reported that villages along the banks of the Ayeyarwady River across the Shwegu and Sing Khan areas have been repeatedly bombed by the military from the air, causing damage to many villages.

Military Conducts Recruitment Drive in Lamung Zup Village

Pajau Media
September 8, 2026

Military Commission joint forces are reportedly conducting an intensive recruitment drive in Lamung Zup Village, located along the Myitkyina-Sumprabum road.

In recent days, Military Commission forces and allied Militia forces have been recruiting young men and adult males in Lamung Zup Village and surrounding villages.

Residents in the area reportedly feel unsafe due to the recruitment campaign and are concerned about travelling on the roads and going to their mountain farms and fields to work.

In addition, Military Commission troops have reportedly been frequently moving toward the Myitsone-Tanghpre area in recent days. They have reportedly made at least two troop movements, with each group consisting of around 200 personnel.

Currently, along sections of the Myitkyina-Sumprabum road, particularly the Myitsone-Tanghpre route, Military Commission joint forces and allied Militia forces continue to operate checkpoints, stopping and inspecting civilians travelling along the road.

Military Troops Reportedly Increasing Movements Around Myitsone, Tanghpre Area

Pajau Media
September 7, 2026

Military commission troops have been frequently moving around the Myitsone -Tanphaya area in recent days, according to local residents.

The military commission troops reportedly travel and conduct movements in the area at least twice a week, with around 20 troops involved in each movement, according to local sources.

Most recently, on September 3, some vehicles carrying soldiers were reportedly seen travelling north from Myitkyina toward the Myitsone road, according to eyewitnesses.

According to local residents, KIA troops are stationed in and around the Myitsone-Tanghpre area. Residents said the military's continued movements and displays of troop strength have caused significant concern among local communities.

There were also reports of military reinforcements being sent to the Myitsone-Tanghpre area around midnight in August. The troops were reportedly groups assigned to provide security for some government employees travelling to the area.

Currently, at various points along the Myitsone -Tanghpre section of the Myitkyina-Putao road, militia forces under the military commission joint forces continue to operate checkpoints, stopping and inspecting people travelling along the road.

Six People Reportedly Drown in Myitkyina Within Just Over One Month

Pajau Media
September 7, 2026

Six people have reportedly died from drowning in Myitkyina, Kachin State, within just over one month, according to information from local social assistance and rescue organizations.

At around 2:30 p.m. on September 5, two schoolchildren drowned while swimming in the Ayeyarwady River in Shwe Zet Ward, according to local sources.

The deceased children were reportedly only around 12 and 13 years old. The incident occurred while they were swimming in the river during a school holiday. Local social rescue organizations were able to retrieve their bodies, according to sources.

Local residents said that children often go to the Ayeyarwady River to play in the water during school holidays.

“Whenever the children have school holidays, they spend the whole day playing in the river. The current is not extremely strong, but the area where Njang Hka meets the river is quite deep. I think the main reason for the drownings is that they are not experienced swimmers,” a local resident said.

Most of those who have drowned have been teenagers and children, with the majority reportedly between 10 and 15 years old.

Previous drowning incidents include the death of a 17 year old young man at Lungga Pa in Shatapru on August 9, and the death of a 9 year old child at an old fish pond in Kawng Ra on August 10.

On August 20, a young person around 20 years old also drowned in Nan Kwe Creek, while on August 21, a 14 year old child drowned at the Lungga Pa riverbank.

Following the repeated drowning deaths involving children, local social rescue organizations have urged people, particularly children, to avoid swimming or playing in areas with strong currents or deep water.

Military Carries Out Airstrike on Sinkhan Bridge

Pajau Media
September 7, 2026

The military carried out an airstrike and destroyed the Sinkhan Ayeyarwady River Bridge in Bhamaw Township, Kachin State, according to reports.

At around midday yesterday, September 6, a fighter jet reportedly dropped two 500 pound bombs on the bridge, causing severe damage to the structure.

Meanwhile, following the advance of military vessels upriver, clashes between the military and KIA allied forces have also frequently occurred in the area around the Sinkhan Bridge.

The Sinkhan Bridge has been under the control of the KIA allied forces since 2024. In an effort to retake the bridge and reinforce its military strength in Bhamaw, the military began moving upriver along the Ayeyarwady River with military vessels starting August 21.

Bodies Reportedly Surface in Ayeyarwady After Military Flotilla Came Under Attack Near Shwegu

Pajau Media
September 6, 2026

Several bodies believed to be those of Myanmar military personnel have reportedly surfaced and been seen floating downstream in the Ayeyarwady River between Shwegu and Sinkhan, following heavy attacks on a military flotilla travelling toward Bhamaw.

According to local and resistance-linked sources, some military personnel jumped into the river after vessels carrying troops came under attack by KIA and allied resistance forces. Others were reportedly thrown or fell into the water after vessels were damaged during the fighting.

Sources said that some of those who entered the river drowned, while their bodies later resurfaced and were carried downstream by the current.

Some bodies were reportedly seen in the river as early as September 4, while others were later observed along sections of the river and its banks.

One source familiar with the area said several bodies had been spotted downstream, including three reportedly seen along the river during travel through the area.

Flotilla came under repeated attacks
The reports follow several days of intense fighting along the Ayeyarwady River as a military flotilla attempted to reach Bhamaw.
The convoy, which left Mandalay's Gaw Wein Port on August 21, reportedly carried military personnel and supplies intended for military positions in Bhamaw.

As the vessels moved north through the Shwegu area, KIA and allied forces repeatedly attacked the convoy.
Fighting became particularly intense around Zinbung village and Sinkhan Bridge, where resistance forces attempted to prevent the vessels from continuing toward Bhamaw.

Several vessels were reportedly damaged during the attacks. In at least some cases, personnel on board were forced to abandon damaged vessels, with some entering the river.

Resistance sources have also reported that some military personnel surrendered after vessels were disabled and could no longer continue.

There have been conflicting claims about the people who entered the river.
Some military supporting social media accounts have described them as civilian workers. Resistance-linked sources, however, have said that some of the people seen in the river were military personnel and that some bodies were later found wearing military clothing.

The reported discovery of bodies nevertheless comes amid confirmed reports of heavy fighting along the river route and significant disruption to the military convoy.

New flotilla reportedly moving north
The latest reports also come as another 31-vessel military flotilla is reportedly moving north from the Mandalay area.
A resistance group in Wetlet reported on September 5 that the vessels had begun travelling upriver, with some reportedly reaching the Singu area.

It remains unclear whether the entire new flotilla is destined for Bhamaw.
If the vessels continue along the same route, further clashes could occur around areas where KIA and allied forces previously attacked military river convoys.

For communities living along the Ayeyarwady, the renewed movement raises concerns about further fighting, artillery fire and airstrikes.

"People are already evacuating, the situation is becoming more dangerous day by day as more flotillas are moving towards north Kachin State, we don't want to be trap in the battle". says a Zinbung resident who stays in Myitkyina.
