A day trip outside of Bali introduced us to a quieter, walkable side of Bali that checked some major boxes on our forever home checklist.

We also found ourselves (OK, we put ourselves) right in the middle of a kite festivals that is far bigger and chaotic than it sounds.

And hilarity did not ensue.

After two months of living here, exploring the city, spending time with locals, scuba diving nearby islands, and experiencing everyday life, we think we’re pretty close to finding our forever home.

Or at least narrowing down our Top 2.

In this video, we're looking back on everything we experienced in Dumaguete sharing what surprised us most, what we loved, and what makes this small city a top contender for us long-term.

Apo Island is often mentioned as one of the best dive destinations in the Philippines.

From sea turtles and garden eels to underwater gas bubbles and healthy reefs, Apo Island gave us plenty to see.

For weeks we've been trying to answer a simple question:

Today we left the city behind and rode into the mountains above Valencia to find out.

From Casaroro Falls to Pulangbato Falls, sulfur vents, mountain roads, and a few unexpected surprises along the way, this ride completely changed how we looked at the area surrounding Dumaguete.

When you're considering a place as a potential home it's not just about the city itself - it’s about what your weekends look like, how easy it is to get into nature, and whether there's enough variety to keep life interesting.

As we try to find our forever home in this great big world, having access to a variety of activities is clutch.

Siquijor (see - key - hoor) is a short ferry ride from the port of Dumaguete City. Then a motorbike. Then a hike.

A few hikes, actually.

From ferries and scooters to waterfalls, beaches, and unexpected delays, this turned into one of the most exhausting — and beautiful — days we’ve had in the Philippines.

Is this actually an EASY day trip or way more effort than it’s worth?
