5 MUST-DO hikes in Los Angeles 🥾⛰️

LA has way more to offer than beaches, traffic and Hollywood.

Within a couple hours of the city you can hike to waterfalls, summit mountains, cross rivers and even find an abandoned bridge hidden deep in the San Gabriel Mountains.

Here are 5 LA hikes worth adding to your bucket list:

1️⃣ Escondido Falls 🌿

📍 Malibu, CA
🥾 3.5 miles RT
⛰️ 475 ft elevation gain
💪🏽 Easy–Moderate

Best for: Waterfalls + an easier adventure

One of the best options on this list if you want a shorter hike. Go after a good rainy season when the falls are flowing for the best experience.

2️⃣ Josephine Peak ⛰️

📍 Angeles National Forest
🥾 8.1 miles RT
⛰️ 1,889 ft elevation gain
💪🏽 Moderate–Hard

Best for: Mountain views + a solid workout

A steady climb into the San Gabriels with huge views as you gain elevation. Come prepared for plenty of uphill.

3️⃣ Cathedral Peak 🌄

📍 Santa Barbara, CA
🥾 ~5 miles RT
⛰️ ~2,375 ft elevation gain
💪🏽 Hard

Best for: Sunrise + serious adventure

This one earns every bit of that view.

It’s steep, rugged and involves sections of scrambling depending on your route—but reaching the ridgeline above Santa Barbara is unreal.

AB Tip: Start around 3 AM if you’re experienced and properly equipped for hiking in the dark and want to catch sunrise from the top.

4️⃣ Bridge to Nowhere 🌉

📍 San Gabriel Mountains
🥾 9.5 miles RT
⛰️ 1,246 ft elevation gain
💪🏽 Moderate–Hard

Best for: River crossings + a unique destination

You’ll follow the East Fork of the San Gabriel River deep into the mountains, crossing the water multiple times before reaching an abandoned bridge seemingly in the middle of nowhere.

And yes…this is also where you can bungee jump off the bridge. 😈

5️⃣ Strawberry Peak 🍓

📍 Angeles National Forest
🥾 7 miles RT
⛰️ 1,771 ft elevation gain
💪🏽 Moderate–Hard

Best for: Summit views + a classic LA mountain hike

A beautiful climb to one of the most recognizable peaks in the front range of the San Gabriels.

Don’t underestimate it—the exposed sections and elevation gain can make this one feel much harder than the mileage suggests.

💡 AB Tips

• Start early, especially during warmer months
• Carry more water than you think you’ll need
• Download your trail map before losing service
• Check weather, trail and seasonal water conditions before leaving
• Never let someone else’s pace determine yours

⭐ AB Verdict - One of the best things about living in LA is how quickly you can trade the city for mountains, waterfalls and wilderness.

If you could only hike ONE: 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5? 👇🏽

Save this for your next LA hiking weekend. 🥾

5 reasons you should NEVER go bungee jumping 😭

Seriously. Don’t do it.

Because once you jump off your first bridge, things may never be the same again. 😂

📍 Bungee America — Bridge to Nowhere, CA
💰 Starts around $150
🌉 Bungee jumping from the Bridge to Nowhere
🥾 Adventure begins with a hike into the San Gabriel Mountains

1️⃣ The high is unmatched

Nothing resets your brain quite like standing on the edge of a bridge and voluntarily stepping off it. That moment of free fall?

Pure adrenaline.

2️⃣ You’ll get addicted

You tell yourself you’re just going to do it once. Then one jump becomes two. Then you learn there are different ways to jump…And suddenly you’re planning your next five. 😂

3️⃣ You’ll become THAT adrenaline friend

You know the friend everyone warns the new person about?* “Don’t let Anthony plan the trip.”* Yeah. You’ll become that person. 😭

4️⃣ You’ll ruin normal activities

Once you’ve spent your weekend doing backflips off a bridge, certain activities just don’t hit the same anymore. Mini golf never stood a chance. 😂

5️⃣ You’ll start chasing bigger jumps

First you just want to survive the jump. Then you want to try a backflip. Then a front flip. Then you start wondering…

“Where’s an even BIGGER one?” 👀

And suddenly your bucket list gets a lot more interesting.

⭐ AB Verdict - Absolutely terrible idea.

10/10. Would recommend. 😂

Would you bungee jump off a bridge: YES or absolutely NOT? 👇🏽

The most underrated view in Southern California 🏔️

You don’t need to hike for hours to get one of the best views in Big Bear.

Castle Rock Trail is short, steep and ends with an incredible panoramic view overlooking Big Bear Lake.

📍 Castle Rock Trail — Big Bear Lake, CA
🥾 2.5 miles RT
⛰️ 500–600 ft Elevation Gain
💪🏽 Moderate
⏱️ 1.5–2 hours
🐕 Yes, on leash
🌲 Forest + rocky terrain

🌄 The Highlight

The hike climbs through the forest before reaching Castle Rock, where you can scramble higher for an even better view.

And that final view?

Big Bear Lake surrounded by mountains as far as you can see.

For such a short hike, the payoff is ridiculous.

💡 AB Tips

• Don’t let the mileage fool you—the climb starts almost immediately
• Wear shoes with good traction, especially if you plan to scramble around Castle Rock
• Go early to avoid crowds and find parking more easily
• Bring water even though it’s a relatively short hike
• Download your trail map beforehand
• For the best light, I’d aim for early morning or late afternoon

⭐ AB Verdict - One of the best effort-to-reward hikes in Southern California.

Short enough to fit into a Big Bear day trip, challenging enough to feel earned, and a view that looks like you hiked MUCH farther to reach it.

Save this for your next Big Bear trip. 🏔️

LA’s Best Off-Road Ride 🏜️🔥

You don’t have to drive all the way to the desert to get behind the wheel of an ATV.

You can go off-roading right here in Los Angeles.

One minute you’re climbing through the hills, the next you’re ripping down dirt trails—and if you go after a good rainstorm, things can get VERY muddy. 😂

📍 ATV Tours LA - Los Angeles, CA

💰 Starts around $120

⏱️ 1–2 hour tours

🏜️ Private guided ATV experiences

🔥 Hills, dirt trails & off-road terrain

🌧️ Potential mud riding after rainstorms

🏜️ The Experience

This isn’t riding around a small closed course.

Your guide takes you out onto the trails where you’ll climb hills, navigate changing terrain and get plenty of opportunities to open up the ATV.

And after it rains?

That’s when things get really fun. 😈

💡 AB Tips

• Wear clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting dirty
• If there’s been recent rain, prepare for MUD
• Bring sunglasses or eye protection for dustier conditions
• Private tours are great if you want a more personalized experience
• Check weather and trail conditions before booking if you’re specifically hoping for mud

⭐ AB Verdict - One of the best ways to add some adrenaline to a day in LA without needing an entire weekend or a road trip.

And personally?

I’m choosing the mud every time. 😂

Save this for your next LA adventure.

Would you zipline in the dark? 🌙😳

Ziplining during the day is one thing.

Now imagine stepping off the platform at night—with nothing but the moonlight, glowing wristbands and the lights of the people flying through the darkness around you.

Welcome to Moonlight Ziplining at Highline Adventures.

📍 Highline Adventures — Santa Margarita, CA

💰 Starts around $140

🌙 Nighttime zipline experience

⏱️ Tours last roughly 1.5–2 hours

🔥 Home to some of the biggest & fastest ziplines in California

🌙 Why Do It at Night?

You can’t see the landscape the same way you can during the day—which makes the sensation of speed feel completely different.

You gear up, throw on your glow-in-the-dark accessories and head into the hills before launching yourself into the darkness.

And once you’re flying?

It’s basically you, the wind and the moonlight.

💡 AB Tips
• Wear layers—temperatures can drop quickly after sunset
• Secure your phone or camera before getting on the course
• Wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothes
• Check the moonlight tour schedule before making the drive
• If heights make you nervous, nighttime might actually make this one MORE interesting 😂

⭐ AB Verdict - I’ve done plenty of ziplining, but taking away most of your visibility completely changes the experience.

Sometimes the best way to make an adventure feel new again is to experience it differently.

Would you zipline into complete darkness? 🌙👇🏽

Racing dolphins at 50 MPH 🐬🌊

Yes, you can actually Jet Ski from Long Beach to Catalina Island.

And this might be one of the wildest ways to experience Southern California.

Instead of taking the ferry, you hop on a Jet Ski in Long Beach and ride across the open Pacific all the way to Catalina—with the LA coastline disappearing behind you and the island slowly appearing on the horizon.

📍 Long Beach → Catalina Island, CA

💰 Starts around $399

🌊 Roughly 1.5 hours each way

🛑 3–4 stops along the crossing

💨 Reach speeds over 50 MPH

🐬 Dolphin sightings are common

🐋 You may even spot whales along the way

🐬 The Crossing

This isn’t just transportation to Catalina—the ride is the adventure.

You leave Long Beach with views of the Queen Mary before heading into open ocean, where you may find yourself riding alongside massive pods of dolphins.

Then it’s throttle down and Catalina straight ahead. 🌊

🏝️ Catalina Island

Once you reach Catalina, you get time to explore and enjoy the island before hopping back on the skis for another 20+ mile ride across the Pacific.

By the end of the day, you’ve basically turned a Catalina day trip into an ocean expedition.

💡 AB Tips

• Be prepared to get wet—this is open-ocean riding
• Bring sunscreen and secure anything you take on the ski
• Wildlife sightings aren’t guaranteed, but keep your eyes on the water
• Expect the ocean conditions to change throughout the crossing
• Don’t underestimate the ride back—it’s a full adventure day

⭐ AB Verdict - I’ve taken the ferry. I’ve flown to Catalina. But riding a Jet Ski across the Pacific while dolphins race alongside you?

This is how I’d choose to get there. 🐬

Save this for your California bucket list.

Glow hard or go home. 🌈😂

This might be one of the most fun ways to spend a night in LA.

Sky Zone’s GLOW takes the entire indoor adventure park and turns down the lights—then the trampolines, slides and obstacles come alive under black lights and neon.

📍 Sky Zone — Alhambra, CA
💰 Starts around $40
🛝 Slides & obstacle courses
🤸🏽 Trampolines & foam pits
🏀 Basketball + more

🌙 Why Go at Night?

You get all the chaos of Sky Zone, but the black lights, music and neon completely change the experience.

One minute you’re flying down a slide, the next you’re attempting something on a trampoline that your knees definitely didn’t approve. 😂

💡 AB Tips

• Wear something bright or neon—it looks even better under the black lights
• Check the GLOW schedule before going since it runs during select times
• Arrive early so you get the most out of your session
• Great for groups, birthdays or an active night out
• Prepare to leave significantly more tired than you arrived 😭

⭐ AB Verdict - Sometimes you don’t need a road trip or a huge adventure. You just need to find a new way to have fun in your own city.

Who are you bringing to GLOW night? 👇🏽

Places in California for Adrenaline Junkies — PT. 1 😤🔥

California has no shortage of beautiful beaches, scenic hikes and national parks.

📍 Azusa, CA
💰 Starts around $150
🥾 Requires a hike to reach the bridge
🌉 Jump from the historic Bridge to Nowhere
🔥 Multiple jump styles available

You’ll hike deep into the San Gabriel Mountains before eventually reaching the Bridge to Nowhere—and then willingly jump off it.

The hike makes the experience even better because you have plenty of time to contemplate what you’re about to do. 😂

🪂 2. Skydive Monterey Bay

📍 Monterey Bay, CA
💰 Starts at $269
🪂 Tandem skydiving available for first-timers
🌊 Incredible views of the California coastline
🔥 Freefall + parachute flight

If jumping off a bridge isn’t enough, try jumping out of a plane.

What makes Monterey special is the scenery. Once that parachute opens, you’re floating above one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in California.

🐬 3. Jet Ski to Catalina Island

📍 Long Beach → Catalina Island
💰 Starts around $399
🌊 Open-ocean crossing
💨 Speeds over 50 MPH
🐬 Dolphins are commonly spotted along the way
🐋 Possible whale sightings

Instead of taking the ferry to Catalina, ride a Jet Ski across the Pacific.

The crossing takes roughly 1.5 hours each way with several stops—and if you’re lucky, you might find yourself riding alongside a pod of dolphins.

💡 AB Tip

If you’re new to extreme adventures, you don’t have to start with the scariest thing on the list.

Pick the adventure that pushes you slightly outside your comfort zone. Build confidence. Then go bigger.

That’s how the addiction starts. 😂

⭐ AB Verdict - California might secretly be one of the best states in America for adrenaline ju**ies. Mountains, ocean, cliffs, planes—you can find just about every type of adventure here.

Which one are you doing first: BUNGEE, SKYDIVE or JET SKI? 👇🏽

And what should make PT. 2?

There are few feelings better than flying. 🪂

If you’ve always wanted to try an extreme adventure but jumping out of a plane feels like a little too much 😅, paragliding might be the perfect place to start.

• Bring a light layer since it can be cooler in the air
• After your flight, hike down to Black’s Beach and make a full adventure day out of it
• Flight conditions depend heavily on the wind, so build some flexibility into your plans

⭐ AB Verdict - If you want to know what pure joy looks like, just listen to me screaming in this video. 😂

Flying is one of the greatest feelings in the world, and this is one of my favorite ways to experience it.

Would you run off this cliff? 🪂👇🏽

Fear is a liar.

It tells you that you can’t.
That you’re not ready.
That something will go wrong.
That staying comfortable is safer than finding out what you’re capable of.

But I’ve learned something from doing the things that scare me:

Some of our greatest joy and potential live on the other side of our greatest fears. The first time you jump, climb, paddle or step into the unknown, fear can feel overwhelming. Then you do it. And sometimes, the thing you were once terrified of becomes the thing you can’t wait to do again.

That’s been one of the greatest lessons adventure has taught me. Courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s deciding that fear doesn’t get to make the decision for you. So whatever your version of the jump is…

Take it.

You might discover something you love on the other side.

What’s one fear you want to conquer? 👇🏽
