Biggest shout out EVER to ! Last year was tough, having written 400-word integrated essays and kept getting a 21, along with another Daniela. I was at a loss of words and we could never break 90, until Daniela came back this year, practicing by herself, bought a couple of reading courses, got my new academic and integrated, and BOOM! Phucking 27?! Warms my heart like crazy to see that her TOEFL journey is FINISHED!

I told Brenda to go to a university instead of a prometric — and keep in mind, her scores were always 88-89 at prometrics. And finally, she got a 103 at Florida Atlantic university. DO NOT GO TO PROMETRICS!

The Trials

Upon landing here in the apparent ‘land of smiles,’ I was under the impression that Thai people were lively, helpful, smiley, and just open-minded in general. Over the ensuing months in my stint, my life turned right upside down. I allowed people to tell me that I wasn’t good enough because the color of my skin. The comments such as “ewwww! Black man! Low-class! Pimp! Black people are the worst of them all. You look like a smug. Can you translate into Gullah language?” Some of the most insidious remarks I’ve ever gotten (and I’m from America) were suggestive. I accepted them and it become my world......until one day....
