UPDATE: Head of ASEAN International Observers Group takes two questions in Surin province, 15 kilometres from Thai-Cambodia border.
Head of ASEAN International Observers Group (IOG) Brig Gen Samsul Rizal Musa told senior Thai Army officers in Surin province on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, on his last day of the three-day observation trip along the Thai-Cambodian border that he and his colleagues from eight ASEAN nations are on the ground to verify the ceasefire situation and see the damages caused by the conflict although they are not here "to pin point who is right or wrong."
He told Khaosod English’s Pravit Rojanaphruk that a solid report is expected within a week.
Samsul, who is the Defence Attache at the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok, earlier told the Thai army officers that he has noted the use of landmines and drones by Cambodia, and "a provocation from the other party" as well as the use of fake news and disinformation on social media by the Cambodian side.
"Human provocation happened to us yesterday's morning [at An Ma Pass]," said Samsul, who also thanked the Thai Army for being in high morale, and exhibiting "gentlemen and professional behaviour."
