🔴⚫️The CORE of the team determines how the team plays.

Let’s say for instance, Mainoo is the main man of this team, we’d see a lot of Mainoo-style football in the most important moments of the game.

Same logic applies to Bruno.

If Carrick is to establish a fully functional possession based style, Bruno will not be a major part of it….

Why?

Because to get the most of your key man, you allow him a certain level of freedom to dictate what to do on the pitch. That freedom is used to express his innermost footballing desires & default style, which in Bruno’s case means reverting the team to a vertical, quick, transition style…..

This in itself is not an issue because it has proven that it can work, and it has worked, the problem comes when the key man’s STYLE determines how the team plays…..

I once told Presley Ikenna Ikonne that Bruno is not part of the system, Bruno Fernandes is the SYSTEM…..As long as he’s the key man at United, you almost certainly know what to expect from United in possession.

Of course everything goes through him.

He’s the team’s best player, so you can’t bench him, he’s over 30, so you can’t change how he plays, so the best thing to do would be to mould the team to get the most out of how he plays, which means abandoning the idea of patient possession in the mid-block or you sell him.

🔴⚫️(Video explanation) United stretch the defence but still RUSH the final delivery.

Not ideal.

🔴⚫️(Video explanation) United attacking too early against a settled defense was an ISSUE!

Need for stretching and baiting the defense.

Watch.

🔴⚫️I know Carrick is kinda obsessed with the wrong-foot winger thing a lot, I know he imagines a world where he signs Ryan Giggs but man……I think I liked and enjoyed watching Rashford on the left against Hull City, a proper winger performance.

Ideally Dorgu is Carrick’s Bale and Giggs and Sane, I don’t know if I’ll be doing too much if I ask that he be moved to compete with Amad and Mbeumo on the right since there are no plans to use him as a LB.

🔴⚫️I don’t want to judge the match by the result, lemme just go and watch the replay first…..

Cos im seeing high possession stats here and United still lost…

Ali

I’ll always maintain: symptoms over diagnosis when it comes to transfers.

What Coach X asks of a player can be completely different from Coach Y. Rogers had build up duties at Villa. At Chelsea, I’d want him strictly as a final third player and let Palmer and Enzo handle the build up.

Baleba isn't a #6 either, at least not in the traditional sense. That role is almost extinct at the highest level. Most teams now use 6/8 hybrids, so I don't see his ability to play deeper as a flaw. At Brighton last season, Baleba played as a #6 partly to cover Van Hecke's build up involvement, particularly his carries. There was also the need to protect Lewis Dunk's lack of mobility. So yes, Baleba can obviously play there.

This is also why I wanted him as my LB signing for Chelsea. You get elite physicality, transition control and a genuine build up outlet. His ball carrying, recovery runs, athleticism and physical dominance are all top level. Put him at LB with the freedom to recognise cues and invert or bomb forward instinctively, and you've created another dimension.

Every PL club needs a Baleba type right now. Arsenal have Rice, who's basically a cheat code in recovery and transition. Spurs have Tonali and Fernandes, both efficient profiles even if their prices are debatable. City are primed to sign Bouaddi, another player who excels at recovering transitions.

For United, Baleba changes the board completely. If they get this deal done, the flexibility it gives them is ridiculous.

Baleba LB?
Baleba × Mount?
Baleba × Santos?
Baleba × Tielemans?
Baleba × Mainoo?

You see it now.
