Walang muna mangangamusta sa'kin sa 25. Hahanapin ko lang ang sarili ko. 🤣

Never felt this warm before. Being far from home sometimes makes birthdays feel quiet, but today reminded me that love finds you in the most unexpected places

Thank you so much to my hubby, Jim Tutor, Jenny Fernandez Tseng and her fam, my family from the Philippines, and 花蓮縣康樂國小 for making my day so special.

It’s almost Christmas, and that means it’s time for Christmas vocabulary again, one of my favorite topics to teach!

Even if Christmas isn’t a national holiday here in Taiwan, maraming Taiwanese kids still enjoy the fun parts of the season, decorations, Christmas songs, and cute holiday activities in school. Christmas in Taiwan is quite different from the Philippines.

Sa Pinas, super festive: family reunions, noche buena, simbang gabi, and decorations everywhere. But in Taiwan, Christmas is more of a commercial and romantic celebration rather than a religious one. Fun fact: Many Taiwanese couples treat Christmas like Valentine’s Day, date nights, gift exchanges, and cute couple photos. 🎁💗

Another interesting fact: Taiwan has huge Christmas light displays in places like Banqiao in New Taipei, Taichung, and even in some malls across the country, attracting thousands of visitors every year. Schools also hold small Christmas events, gift-giving, or simple performances for kids. So habang nagtuturo ako ng Christmas vocabulary, I also explain how different countries celebrate Christmas, and Taiwan is always a fun example. Even without noche buena or simbang gabi, Christmas here still feels warm and meaningful in its own way.

Namamasko po. 🫶

“WHAT’S THAT, TEACHER?”

Every month may problema talaga ang maraming babae, PMS, mood swings, at syempre… pimple. (Not all ha, pero marami talaga.)

(First time here in Taiwan) 😭
At syempre, near the nose pa talaga siya lumabas, yung area na hindi mo kayang itago kahit anong angle. I ignored it at first, hinayaan ko na lang. Until one of my students suddenly asked, “What’s that, Teacher?”

Kahit ako na-shock. Hahahaha!
Alam mo yung parang bigla mong na-realize na, “Ay oo nga pala, may volcano nga pala ako sa muka today.” 😂

Honestly, in my experience, very rare ako makakita ng Taiwanese na may malaking tigyawat. Their skin is usually super clear, so I think clueless talaga yung mga bata kapag may nakita silang malaking dot sa mukha ng teacher nila. For them, it’s like a mystery spot they need to investigate. 🤣

And dahil doon… ayan, napabili ako sa Watsons today.
Blue moon talaga, pati ako napa–pimple patch shopping. Hays life. 😩

Stop saying “How?” every single time.
I promise, most of the answers you’re looking for are already online; you just have to start searching.

When I first applied, I didn’t know everything. I Googled requirements, watched countless YouTube videos, read FB posts, checked forums, compared timelines, and learned step-by-step through research. Hindi ako nag-intay ng spoon-feeding. I tried to understand the process by myself, and that made a huge difference.

If you’re really serious about teaching in Taiwan:
📌 Search the requirements
📌 Watch application tutorials
📌 Read actual experiences
📌 Double-check official sites
📌 Take notes and start working on your documents

You don’t have to know everything right away. But you DO have to make the first move.
The information is there. Accessible. Free. Waiting for you to read it.

Be curious. Be resourceful. Start researching.
Minsan, the only thing standing between you and your Taiwan journey… is your willingness to look for answers.

How to say "I love you" in Mandarin

26/11/2025

Every lunch, some of my students come to me asking for snacks (usually candies). But before I give them any, they have to answer a quick quiz related to our lesson. 😄

Now that we’re practicing a Christmas song, I told them they need to sing it for me first. Instant mini-caroling during lunch time. 🎄✨

Patawad po. Candies and kisses muna from teacher. Super advance. 🤣

So today at my school in Taiwan, I saw young kids learning about taxes, and I couldn’t help but find it really interesting. Even at this age, they are being taught what taxes are, why people pay them, and how they can be part of the system in the future. The lesson included practical things like how taxes are used to build roads, fund schools, hospitals, public transportation, and keep communities safe. They even talked about how to report income, what happens when you pay taxes, and who manages the money responsibly.

I thought it was amazing that financial responsibility and civic awareness start this early. Honestly, I hope schools in the Philippines also teach students about taxes like this, so they understand why it matters, how it works, and where the money should go.

It really made me think: starting lessons like this early can shape better citizens in the future. 💡
