White Fungus will exhibit at the inaugural Fake Art Book Fair: Zines for Change this weekend at Songshan Cultural and Creative Park (Creative Space) in Taipei.

3–4 October 2026, Sat 11:00–19:00 (evening talks 19:00–21:00) | Sun 11:00–18:00.

The fair brings together independent publishers and zine makers from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Shanghai, Korea, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.

Alongside the exhibitors: a Japanese zine exhibition curated by HandSawPress (approx. 83 titles), a survey of Taiwanese zines from the 1990s to the 2010s in collaboration with scholar Jian Miao-Ju, a special section on War and the Everyday featuring Iranian and Ukrainian zines and independent comics, an open-call public table, and a programme of talks.

In the forthcoming issue of Tainan Art Museum's quarterly magazine 《臺南美術》, White Fungus editor Ron Hanson has an article about Tainan’s Ting Shuo Hear Say.

Founded in 2016 by Alice Hui-Sheng Chang and Nigel Brown, Ting Shuo was Taiwan’s only artist-run space dedicated to sound art. Chang and Brown have recently moved into the project’s former physical space, yet Ting Shuo continues as a curatorial project and platform. It was a great opportunity to speak with them and reflect on the past ten years.

Ting Shuo is well known for its sound walks, guiding residents through the city to immerse themselves in Tainan’s soundscapes. White Fungus co-founder and art director Mark Hanson followed some of their routes and took photographs that appear in the just-released issue of the museum’s newspaper 《南城》. In 2016, White Fungus published an article by Kurt Gottschalk exploring his long-standing love and fascination with Dolly Parton, accompanied by original drawings of Parton by Emma Gineering.

Sparked by a postcard for Stephen Vitiello’s installation “Dolly Ascending”—featuring an image of the icon—that sat on Gottschalk’s desk for many years, he set out to understand her nearly universal popularity.

He examines avant-garde responses to her, including the B-side of Laurie Anderson’s “O Superman” and Vicki Bennett’s track “Dolly Pardon,” before traveling to Dollywood and discovering that many of his assumptions about her were wrong.

"A dispute over the naming of Taiwan’s participation in the 2026 Gwangju Biennale has escalated into accusations of political censorship after organizers replaced the designation “Taiwan Pavilion” with “NTMOFA,” the acronym of Taiwan’s National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts. Taiwanese artists and government bodies have demanded that the original name be restored, while the Gwangju Biennale has yet to publicly explain the reason for the change."

White Fungus is now available at new independent magazine and art book store TOMO Mags in Austin, Texas.

The store began as a passion project in a restored blue school bus that popped up at galleries, universities, and coffee shops. The new store opened in January this year, while the bus continues to operate.

In June TOMO Mags won the Austin Chronicle’s Best of Austin 2026 Critic’s Choice Award for “Best Newsstand Keeping Independent Presses Printing.”

Cornelia Lauf’s love affair with Rome spans four decades of her work as an art historian, deepening after she moved to the Eternal City in 1998 with her then-husband, Joseph Kosuth. For nearly three decades, she has been both a participant and an observer of Rome’s contemporary art scene.

From this vantage point, Lauf shares her perspective on the city while inviting a voice forty years younger—Lebanese artist-curator Majd El Roumi, based in Rome—to contribute his own portrait of this community through photographs of key practitioners. Link in comments:
