Back to Initial Chapel at Daliao, Cheng-San Church Celebrates its 130th Anniversary of Mission

Cheng-San Church of Tainan Presbytery held a thanksgiving service on its 130th anniversary of mission on September 6. Many pastors, elders, deacons and senior church members were invited to “visit their mother chapel at Daliao”. Meanwhile, Koupi Church of Tainan Presbytery and three indigenous churches of Nanpu Presbytery, including Ainung, Lavulang and Avi, were also invited to offer their praise and worship in the service. A jubilant banquet after the service with more than 80 tables were opened and joined by more church members to celebrate and witness the historic mission under God’s blessings in the past 130 years.

PCT Churches Reach Out to Receive the Disabled Dragon-Boat Team from the Philippines

The 15th International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) Club Crew World Championships (CCWC), jointly organized by Hualien County Government and Chinese Taipei Dragon Boat Association, was held at Liyu Lake, Hualian County, from Aug 29 to Sept 6. A dragon-boat team of 53 players, named PADS (Philippine Accessible Disability Services Inc.), came to attend the CCWC on Sept 1.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the mission, the Lay Missionary Training Centre (now name-changed as Chuan Shuo Cheh Iban Methodist Training Centre), which was established by Rev Biaz Takihunang on August 28, 2006 at Ng. Matop, Sibu, Sarawak, Malaysia, held a thanksgiving service on August 21.

Following Traditional Ghost Festival, Taiwan’s Citizen Groups Convened to Remember the Dead in 228 Massacre and White Terror

The seventh month of lunar calendar is commonly known as the Ghost Month in Taiwan. During this month, the Ghost Month Festival(aka Chongyuan Pudu) will be held to host the wandering ghosts with incense and offerings for the peace and well-being of the people alive. On August 15, Taiwan Rebels Culture Movement held the “Cultural Chongyuan Pudu: Commemorating the dead sacrificed in Taiwan’s dark hours” on Ching-Dao East Road to pay tributes to the dead sacrificed or massacred in Taiwan’s colonial past. Rev Huang Chun-sheng, chief pastor of Chi-Nan Church of Chi-Hsin Presbytery, Daoist Master Chen Bor-yu and His Eminence Geshe Thrinley Gyatso Rinpoche of Tibetan Buddhist were invited to co-host the memorial event. Rev Huang led the audience to offer the prayer.

Changhua Christian Hospital Celebrates its 130h Anniversary of Medical Mission with Praising Choirs

Changhua Christian Hospital(CCH) celebrated its 130th anniversary of medical mission in the thanksgiving service, named “Glory to God for walking with us in a centenary medical mission”, held in the David Landsborough International Conference Hall in the evening on August 7. In addition to the choirs from various CCH branch hospitals, many local church choirs of Changhua Presbytery were also invited to praise and celebrate the significant event.

Writing a New Mission History, Sinkang Community’s Dutch Church and School Launched

To commemorate and cultivate a significant historical site initiated with a brand new writing system around 400 years ago, a press conference – “Restoring Sinkang Community’s Dutch Church and School” – sponsored by “Preparatory Committee for Celebrating both the 130th Anniversary of Sinkang Church and the 400th Anniversary of the Mission in Taiwan” was held at Sinkang Church of Tainan Presbytery in the morning on July 25. Elder Lee Der-chang, general secretary of Tainan Sinkang Cultural Council, indicated “the project aims to lead the public to appreciate the Christian mission’s legacy by restoring the vivid stories buried in the past.”

Celebrating the 150th birthday of Masataro Kaneko, dubbed as “Father of Taiwan’s sugarcane”, the eldest grandson of Masataro, Mr Ryoshke Kaneko in his 80s and his wife led their daughter, son-in-law and three granddaughters to visit their ancestor’s footprints in Hsin-Hua district, Tainan City, on July 19. Officials of Cultural Affairs Bureau of Tainan City Government, research specialists of Taiwan Sugar Company, and a group of historians versed in local affairs enthusiastically received the descendants of Masataro.

Campaigning for Taiwan’s Human Rights and Social Justice, Rev Dr Edgar File Remembered in Celebration of Life by UCCan

On June 20, about 80 family, friends and partners from Taiwan gathered in Lonsdale, a small village in eastern Ontario, Canada, to hold a memorial service - Celebration of Life - for Rev Dr Edgar (“Ed”) File, a pastor of the United Church of Canada (UCCan). Ed, nick-named as a “Love Taiwan” pastor, peacefully passed away at an age of 94 on 13 February 2026.
