中國首位諾貝爾文學獎被提名人林語堂英譯著作

本系列書各篇均為林語堂先生自中國古典典籍與小品中選輯菁華，進行英文譯介，名家作品對照林語堂的英文名譯，可謂珠聯璧合。語堂先生曾在《古文小品譯英》（The Importance of Understanding）序文說：「我所喜歡的文章……，那些對我有無形影響的老朋友，他們表達的情意真的是歷久彌新而又令人驚喜。我挑選的自然是最好的文章，是我誦讀之後不能忘懷，並使我有所了悟的文章。不能引起我心靈共鳴的文章我是不翻譯的。」又說：「翻譯是很微妙的工作。唯有能夠和作者情意相通的譯者才能翻譯得好。因為譯者實際上是以另外一種語言文字替作者發言，如果兩者不像是老朋友一樣，這怎麼能辦得到？」語堂先生期望藉由他的譯文，傳達其閱讀的激動心情，與讀者共同分享閱讀中國古籍經典的驚喜與歡愉。

🏆林語堂與諾貝爾文學獎(更新)
以前堂編有提過，林語堂曾被提名過諾貝爾文學獎三次，後來再去官網再查一次，林語堂其實是被提名過「六次」😳！
為何會有這個狀況，原因是諾貝爾獎提名「名單需滿 50 年才公開」，且官方資料庫有時會「延後上架」新年度資料。因此過去看到的可能只到 1969 年，近年陸續解封並上架了 1970、1972、1973 的提名，合計變成 6 次。而同一年可被複數提名人提名，會算多次統計的是「提名次數」不是「提名年份數」。例如 1940 年林語堂同年被賽珍珠與斯文・赫定各提名一次，官方就記為兩次。諾貝爾獎官網也明言其提名資料庫並非完整，新年份上架可能有作業時差；因此不同時間點查詢，總數可能更新。

🏆 Lin Yutang and the Nobel Prize in Literature (Update)
We once mentioned that Lin Yutang had been nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature three times. After checking the official site again, it turns out he was actually nominated six times! 😳
This occurred because Nobel Prize nomination lists are released only after 50 years, and the official database sometimes posts newly eligible years with a delay. Earlier checks may have shown entries only up to 1969; in recent years, the 1970, 1972, and 1973 nominations were gradually unsealed and added, bringing the total to six. In addition, multiple nominators can submit a nomination for the same candidate in the same year, and these are counted separately—the metric is the “number of nominations,” not the “number of years nominated.” For instance, in 1940 Lin Yutang was nominated by both Pearl Buck and Sven Hedin, which the official record counts as two. The Nobel website also notes that its nominations database is not complete and that uploads of newly eligible years may lag; consequently, totals can change depending on the time of consultation.
