Nukta Africa, in collaboration with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), today kicked off a three-day training in Tanga on Scientific Data Storytelling and Professional Reporting for JET Members and Correspondents to enhance the visibility of the PWANI YETU Project.

📚 On the first day, participants learned about the importance of marine and coastal conservation—a vital foundation for biodiversity, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods.

This training aims to strengthen the media’s role in raising public awareness, documenting project achievements, promoting transparency, and building community ownership of conservation efforts in Tanzania.

The PWANI YETU – Our Coast Project, which the training supports, is a multi-donor initiative co-financed by the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection (BMUV). It is implemented by GIZ in close collaboration with the Government of Tanzania and other partners.

🌍 The project focuses on conserving and sustainably managing marine and coastal ecosystems in Mkinga, Kilwa, Rufiji, and Mafia, which are critical for fisheries, tourism, the blue economy, and long-term community wellbeing.

🌍 In an era where misinformation spreads faster than truth, collaboration becomes power.

On August 20, 2025, fact-checkers, content creators, online journalists & social media influencers met in Dar es Salaam for a one-day workshop on Fact-Checking & Countering Mis/Disinformation.

✅ Participants shared tools, strategies, and ideas — and left united with one message: working together is the only way to ensure Tanzanians receive credible and trustworthy information.

This workshop was organised by Nukta Africa in collaboration with IMS, with support from SIDA, under the project “Strong Media, Good Journalism, and Informed Public Discourse for Accountability in Tanzania.”

Today in Dar es Salaam, voices united against misinformation!

Nukta Africa, in collaboration with International Media Support (IMS), convened fact-checkers, online journalists, content creators & social media influencers for a one-day workshop on fact-checking & countering mis/disinformation.

Participants engaged in:
🔎 Practical fact-checking strategies & techniques
🤖 AI verification tools
🤝 Collaborative approaches to tackle mis/disinformation & hate speech

💬 Stakeholders emphasized that collaboration is key if Tanzania is to effectively counter misinformation and ensure the public consumes credible, trustworthy information.

This workshop was part of the project “Strong Media, Good Journalism, and Informed Public Discourse for Accountability in Tanzania”, supported by Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).

Fact-Checking Training for Journalists in Tanzania! 🗞️

Nukta Africa, in collaboration with International Media Support (IMS) and with support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), is conducting a 3-day fact-checking and dis/misinformation training in Morogoro from July 23–25, 2025.

🎙️ The training brings together journalists from local and community radio stations under the Tanzania Development Information Organization (TADIO).

📲 Participants are learning practical tools and techniques to detect and counter false information in all aspects of life including election period.

👩🏽‍💻👨🏾‍💻 Facilitated by experienced trainers from Nukta Africa and partners, this training strengthens media capacity to deliver credible, inclusive, and accountable journalism.

🌍 The goal? To increase public accessespecially for women, youth, and rural communities to trustworthy, balanced content that promotes democratic participation and holds power to account.
