THE BIBLE TRUTH UNFOLDS
What Ancient Nineveh looked like
Nineveh was one of the largest and richest cities in the world about 700 BC. It was located near today’s Mosul in Iraq.
1. The city was extremely large
The walls around Nineveh were about 12 km long.
The walls were very thick and high with many towers and gates.
Some gates were big enough for chariots and armies to pass through.

3. Why God warned Nineveh
In the Bible, God sent Jonah to Nineveh because the city was full of:
violence
cruelty
wickedness
oppression of other nations
God told Jonah to warn them so they could repent.
4. What happened after Jonah preached
When Jonah preached:
The king of Nineveh humbled himself
People fasted and repented
God spared the city
But many years later the city became wicked again and was eventually destroyed around 612 BC.
Interesting biblical fact 📖
The Bible says Nineveh was so large it took three days to walk across it (Book of Book of Jonah).
Here is a deep lesson many people miss in the story of Nineveh and Jonah. 📖
1. God cares about all nations 🌍
Jonah was from Israel, but God sent him to preach to people in Nineveh, which was in Assyria.
This shows:
God is not only the God of one nation.
He cares about every people and every country.
2. Jonah did not want them saved
Nineveh was an enemy of Israel. Jonah knew God was merciful, so he ran away because he did not want God to forgive them.
That is why he fled toward Tarshish instead of going to Nineveh.
The lesson:
Sometimes God loves people we struggle to love.
3. The repentance of Nineveh was powerful
When Jonah finally preached:
The king, the people, and even their animals fasted.
They turned from their evil.
Because of this, God delayed judgment.
4. Jonah became angry
After God spared the city, Jonah became angry because he wanted Nineveh punished.
God then taught him a lesson using a plant to show that:
If Jonah cared about a plant,
God cares much more about 120,000 people in Nineveh.
The main spiritual message ✨
God is:
merciful
patient
willing to forgive any nation or person that repents.
That is why the story of Jonah is often used to show God's mercy to the whole world.
