Bukwo District LC5 Chairperson, Hon. Chesol Tom, has called on residents to continue supporting and encouraging young people to join the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces, UPDF.

Speaking to residents in Bukwo, Chesol said 86 young people have so far joined the UPDF, attributing the achievement to the cooperation between local leaders, parents and the community.

Chesol said the number is expected to increase during the next recruitment exercise if the cooperation continues.

He urged parents to encourage their children who meet the required qualifications to take advantage of recruitment opportunities.

Hon. Chesol Tom said:
“By now, 86 young people have joined the UPDF through our efforts. We are calling upon parents to continue cooperating and supporting their children. If this cooperation continues, we expect the number to increase during the next recruitment.”

Chesol also encouraged the youth to maintain discipline and prepare themselves adequately for future recruitment exercises.

He said continued cooperation between parents, local leaders and young people will play an important role in increasing the number of Bukwo youth joining the UPDF.

🚨 The Ministry of Local Government has directed Isingiro District Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Alice Asiimwe Rushure to hand over office to her deputy following her interdiction over alleged mismanagement of public resources and abuse of office.

In a letter dated August 7, 2026, the Ministry ordered Asiimwe to relinquish her duties as investigations continue into allegations of gross negligence, financial impropriety and failure to properly manage government resources.

The interdiction is linked to concerns surrounding the utilisation of funds under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) programme, particularly money allocated for road works in Isingiro District.

According to the letter, Asiimwe will receive half of her salary during the interdiction period and is restricted from accessing her office or travelling without authorisation.

The directive follows Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara’s visit to Isingiro on August 6, where concerns were raised over the district’s handling of road projects.

During the visit, officials were questioned over an estimated Shs5.3 billion in road works reportedly affected by poor workmanship, incomplete projects and alleged failure to account for public funds

African Heritage Initiative Empowers Youth in Bukwa Sub-County with Vocational Skills

The Parish Chief of Bukwa Sub-County, Cherotich Shauline, has welcomed the African Heritage Initiative for introducing a vocational skills programme aimed at empowering young people in the community.

Speaking during the launch of the training, Cherotich Shauline said the programme targets youth aged 18 to 45 years and is expected to improve livelihoods through practical skills and entrepreneurship.

The African Heritage Initiative is offering training in various vocational courses, including hairdressing, tailoring, catering, carpentry, welding, and other income-generating skills to equip participants for self-employment.

She encouraged eligible youth to take advantage of the opportunity, noting that vocational skills are essential in addressing unemployment and reducing poverty in Bukwa Sub-County.

Cherotich Shauline also commended the African Heritage Initiative for partnering with the community to promote skills development and youth empowerment, urging participants to remain committed throughout the training.

The programme is expected to benefit hundreds of young people by equipping them with practical knowledge that will enable them to create sustainable sources of income and contribute to local development.

HEADLINE: KAMASA ALFRED URGES LWONGON COMMUNITY TO TRUST LAND CASE REPRESENTATIVES
LWONGON SUB-COUNTY, BUKWO DISTRICT | Monday, July 20, 2026
The Chairperson of the Lwongon Community Representatives, Mr. Kamasa Alfred, has called on residents to remain united and trust the committee of 27 members representing the community in the ongoing land case before the High Court in Mbale.
Speaking during a community meeting held at Lwongon Health Centre III (HC III) on Monday, July 20, 2026, Mr. Kamasa assured residents that the committee is committed to defending the community's interests in the alleged land fraud case involving the Lwongon community and the Kingo family.
He urged the congregation to remain patient, avoid misinformation, and allow the court process to take its course, assuring them that the committee would continue providing updates as the case progresses.
The meeting attracted a large turnout of residents, who were briefed on the progress of the case involving 5,012 acres of disputed land. Community members also reaffirmed their support for a proposed investor from Denmark, but unanimously agreed that the investment should only proceed after the High Court in Mbale delivers its final judgment.
The meeting was attended by the LC III Chairpersons of Kamet and Lwongon sub-counties, who encouraged residents to remain peaceful and united as they await the court's decision.

KAMPALA, UGANDA – Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja has officially flagged off the distribution of government food relief supplies to the Karamoja sub-region in a renewed effort to support vulnerable communities affected by food insecurity.
The flag-off ceremony took place today at the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) headquarters in Bugolobi, Kampala, where government officials reaffirmed their commitment to delivering emergency food assistance to families facing hunger.
The exercise forms part of the Government of Uganda's ongoing humanitarian response aimed at easing the effects of food shortages and improving the welfare of affected households across the Karamoja sub-region.
