Mbale City authorities have launched an investigation after a 4-storey building under construction collapsed early Saturday morning, May 2, 2026, in Namakwekwe Ward, Northern City Division. The incident killed an estimated eight people and left two others seriously injured.

Mbale City has opened an investigation into the incident.

The High Court in Kampala has sentenced Christopher Okello Onyum to death after convicting him of murdering four toddlers at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre.

Justice Alice Komuhangi Khaukha ruled that the killings were extremely cruel and carefully planned, saying the victims were vulnerable children who should have been safe at school. The court also rejected Okello’s insanity defence and found he was fully aware of his actions during the April 2 attack.

Okello was sentenced on four counts of murder and has the right to appeal within 14 days. The case had drawn national attention and was heard through a special mobile court in Ggaba.

Trade Order to be fully implemented — Minister Magyezi

Local Government Minister Raphael Magyezi has said Cabinet resolved on April 27, 2026 to maintain full implementation of the Trade Order in all cities, municipalities and town councils.

Speaking to press in Kampala today, Magyezi said the move responds to Parliament’s resolution after Trade Minister David Bahati announced a suspension of the Trade Order on April 24, 2026 until further notice.

‎My husband and I have been married for eight years. Through both good times and hard times, I’ve tried to stand by him with patience and support.
‎Recently, I learned that he’s been discussing our private marital matters with his friends at the bar. At first I didn’t believe it, but I later overheard him on a phone call sharing very personal details about me and our family things I’ve never spoken about outside our home.What hurts most is knowing that his friends now know intimate aspects of my life that I trusted him to keep private. When I brought this up, he dismissed it, saying he just needed someone to talk to and that I was being too sensitive.I feel exposed, embarrassed, and betrayed. Right now I don’t feel safe opening up to him, and that silence is creating distance between us. I still love my husband and I want to protect our marriage, but I’m unsure how to rebuild trust without further damaging our home.
