Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe flew into the club’s Carrington training ground in a helicopter on Thursday for a series of meetings, including with the team’s head coach Ruben Amorim.

United sources, speaking anonymously as they are not authorised to speak publicly on the matter, insisted Ratcliffe’s visit to Carrington was long planned and included time with Amorim. However, the team’s form was on the agenda and Ratcliffe was seeking to work through issues facing Amorim at the club.

United have had a troubled start to the season, having won only one of their opening four Premier League games, including Sunday’s 3-0 defeat by Manchester City, while exiting the Carabao Cup in humiliating circumstances against Grimsby Town of League Two in August.

The Portuguese coach has faced criticism over his determination to stick to his preferred formation and while his team has shown mild glimpses of improvement, results continue to be poor even after a vast summer spend which included a new £200million attack in Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha.

The Ugandan delegation included Maj Gen Dan Kakono, the Artillery Division Commander and Maj Gen Felix Busizoori, the 4th Infantry Division Commander. They met with a senior Chinese delegation comprising top military generals and officers from the People’s Liberation Army.

Gen Kainerugaba and his counterpart reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the longstanding military partnership between their two nations’ militaries.

Central to the discussions were key pillars of the existing relationship, including advanced military training, peace support operations, and enhanced defence diplomacy.

The talks culminated in the two generals presiding over the signing of a landmark bilateral military agreement. The pact aims to solidify defence cooperation, paving the way for increased exchanges in professional military education, joint training exercises, and technology transfer.

Meanwhile, Gen Kainerugaba’s official visit coincides with the 12th edition of the Beijing Xiangshan Forum, a major security conference that brings together defence officials and military experts from around the world to discuss global security issues.
