Today I have realized that we are never too POOR or sick to help each other. Meet my new friend BITEK, 24 year old. He is a student at U-touch Gulu and comes from Unyama Sub County. He is BLIND but tracks over 12km from home to attend his computer (Braille) lesson on foot everyday.
God sent me to this wonderful friend, I met him at the junction leading to Gulu RDC's office, he was trying to access Gulu University road via Bomah hotel but got struck and confused.
I was badly off with malaria and had no money to get him a boda to take him the long distance, so I offered to take him home.
It was a long, tiresome but fruitful journey, we talked about our lives, future plans and shared testimonies. I was shading tears secretly as he shared to me.
"Bitek testified that one night he had given up completely on life and planned to go out on a su***de mission. He said his intention was to go out roaming the streets of Gulu town and get knocked by any reckless driver.
He said he got out of his hut and tried to access his usual route that he has mastered whole his life, BUT eventually he found himself moving in a circle. He said after several attempts to get out of the family compound, he decided to sit at his doorstep to rest. After that he heard someone singing songs of praise and that provoked him to try his best again to continue with his mission.
After another attempts for almost 2 hours, he decided to rest and the praises eventually stopped and he started weeping.
He then concluded and said "GOD REALLY HAS A REASON FOR EVERY LIFE HE CREATES". That was inspiring and strengthened my faith in my sickness.
After the long discussion with my friend BITEK, I realized he is gifted in music and songwriting.
So HOW CAN YOU HELP BITEK.
Personally, I have offered to walk him home every time I am free or have the resources to get him on a boda boda. And I have encouraged him to invest more time in gospel music, so I will try to make some linkages.
Bitek is a last born to 4 siblings(sisters) who are all married trying to make a life for themselves, so he lives with a crippled grandmother in Unyama. Its such a long sorry. Good people can visit him at U-touch, Gulu, Monday to Friday.
He stopped in P.6 and very hopeful that after he completed his braille lessons, he might land himself a scholarship at Gulu Primary Blind Annex.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING? Prayers can do also.
