The NFP is always a highly anticipated release. It shows the change in the number of employed people in the US from month to month, not including the farming sector. It's commonly regarded as an indicator of the health of the US economy, and that means it has an impact on the dollar and wider markets.
If the NFP is higher than expected, stocks and the dollar often make gains, while a lower figure can mean the opposite.

What to expect from this month's NFP

It seems likely that this month's NFP will be higher than the consensus because the figures have consistently beaten expectations since May last year.

Traders have concentrated on the Fed's extended hawkishness recently: there's a very low chance now of a cut to the funds rate before June.

Gold might decline further and the dollar continue up against most majors if the release is indeed positive. $2,000 is a key area for the former.

M15's ATR for gold was unexpectedly low last month, peaking around $3.75. Volatility this time will probably be at least slightly higher unless the results are very close to the consensus.
