The world's best image history of photography began with the discovery of two crucial principles: the first is the projection of the camera obscura image, and the second is the discovery that certain materials change significantly when exposed to light. There are no artifacts or descriptions indicating any attempt to capture images with light-sensitive materials before the 18th century. Around 1717, Johann Heinrich Schulze used light-sensitive clay to capture images of cut-out letters on a bottle, but he did not attempt to make these results permanent. Around 1800, Thomas Wedgwood made the first reliable documented attempts, although unsuccessful, to capture camera images in a permanent form. His experiments produced detailed images, but Wedgwood and his assistant Humphry Davy found no way to fix these images. In 1826, Nicéphore Niépce managed to fix a captured camera image for the first time, but it required at least eight hours or even several days of exposure, and the initial results were quite crude. Niépce's assistant, Louis Daguerre, went on to develop the daguerreotype process, the first publicly announced and commercially viable photographic process. The daguerreotype required only minutes of exposure in the camera and produced clear and detailed results. On August 2, 1839, Daguerre presented the details of the process to the Chambre des Pairs in Paris, and on August 19, the technical details were published in a joint meeting of the Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Fine Arts at the Institut de France. #التصوير
