PLE 2025: The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has reported an improvement in performance at the Grade One pass level, noting that more candidates have qualified to proceed to the next level or cycle of education compared to 2024.

“I have no doubt that, given the Government’s continued efforts to expand access to post-primary education, all the 730,000 learners who were graded and passed will secure placement in secondary and vocational institutions,” said Prof. Celestino Obua, Chairperson of the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), during the release of the exams on Friday at State House Nakasero.

A total of 817,883 candidates from 15,388 examination centres sat for the 2025 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), up from 797,444 candidates in 2024. Of these, 522,036 learners (63.8%) were Universal Primary Education (UPE) beneficiaries, while 295,847 (36.2%) were non-UPE candidates.

According to a police statement released on Monday, security officers in the Rwizi cattle corridor have arrested a suspected livestock thief following a K9-led operation in Kiruhura District.

Police said the arrest followed an incident reported on the morning of 16 November 2025, when Nayeebare Aggrey, a resident of Sanga Town Council, woke up to check his kraal and found blood around the enclosure. He discovered that some of his goats and sheep had been slaughtered, and three sheep were missing. He immediately reported the suspected livestock theft to Sanga Police Station.

In response, a team from the K9 Unit and detectives was dispatched to the scene at Akabaare Cell. After examining the area, the police sniffer dog picked up a scent and followed it for approximately 70 metres, leading officers directly to the home of Nuwamanya Joshua.

The police further said, the suspect was found at home with pangas believed to have been used in the slaughter.

The United Kingdom Government has emphasized the need for climate preparedness across Uganda’s agricultural sector to ensure long-term sustainability.

Speaking during NaCRRI’s celebration of 75 years of crop research and innovation in Namulonge, the UK Government representative warned that rising temperatures, unpredictable rainfall, extreme weather, and more hot days could reduce productivity or even cause crop failure if not anticipated.

He noted that Uganda’s agriculture is entering a period of major climate uncertainty.

“Many farmers are now shifting to long-term crops like coffee and cocoa as investments in their future, but these crops are likely to face a changing climate over their 50–60-year lifespan,” he said.

He added that research institutions such as NaCRRI are key to safeguarding Uganda’s future harvests by modelling climate risks and advising government, businesses, researchers, and farmers on varieties that can survive and thrive.

Bundibugyo: Teachers disguised as cooks and cleaners were caught helping pupils cheat during the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) at Busalu Primary School in Bundibugyo District.

According to a Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) report shared on Monday, spokesperson Jennifer Kalule-Musamba revealed that scouts discovered sanitary pads stuffed with answer sheets after some girls pretended to be on their periods. The suspects reportedly fled the scene when they were discovered.

"At Busalu Primary School, teachers were disguised as cooks and cleaners and were assisting candidates who kept on going to the toilets. The girls claimed to be in their periods, but when the scouts went to the toilets, she found clean pads with papers of answers inserted inside the pads. When the UNEB covert security personnel caught up with the disguised cooks, they all run away. The police is following up closely," Kalule-Musamba said.

Four people were arrested in Kabalagala for smuggling Social Studies answers into Hillside Junior School during PLE 2025. According to a UNEB report shared on Monday, Jennifer Kalule-Musamba, the Principal Public Relations Officer at the Board said a scout, a chief invigilator, and two invigilators. Some pupils admitted being helped in Maths too.

"In Kabalagala, near Kampala, the Police have arrested four people who smuggled into the examinations room, photocopies of answers for SST, for candidates of Hillside Junior School, Kisugu, who were seated with candidates of Kisugu Islamic School. Those arrested include one scout, one chief invigilator, and two invigilators. The candidates have confessed to having been assisted during the mathematics paper as well. Four candidates have recorded statements at police," Musamba said.

Uganda: Work on the Busega–Mpigi Expressway is set to resume after Parliament approved a loan of 188.18 million Euros from the African Development Bank and 28.31 million Euros from the African Development Fund.

The loan, approved during the Parliament sitting on Tuesday, 28 October 2025, will provide extra funds for the construction of the 27-kilometre expressway. The motion to approve the loan was moved by the State Minister for Industry at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, David Bahati.

Kampala, Uganda: Members of Parliament have asked the Government to tighten road safety laws to stop the growing number of deadly road accidents across the country. They said many of these accidents can be avoided if proper action is taken.

This demand came after a terrible accident on the Kampala–Gulu highway on 22 October 2025, which killed 46 people. MPs said this tragedy should be a warning to fix the long-standing problems in how road rules are enforced.

During a Parliament session on 28 October 2025, Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa said some drivers of big trucks drive recklessly and put others in danger because they think they own the road.

“I was almost hit by a Sino truck. The driver crashed into the car behind me, then ran away. When we spoke to the truck owners, they were rude. These trucks carrying sand and cows are killing people,” Tayebwa said.
