One person was arrested during UPDF recruitment exercise in Tororo at Tororo police play ground.
The deputy resident district Commissioner Amula Albert confirmed the suspect being Jovita Mukulo
He said the suspect was arrested after presenting before the recruitment team fake academic papers that he alleged acquired from Oxford High School Mbale in 2021
He said the suspicion arose after a detective device rejected the senior certificate because no lot of candidates sat for UNEB in 2021 when the country was on total lockdown
However early in the, tears of distress rolled down among hundreds of youth who had turned up for Uganda People's Defence Forces and were turned away.
Out of hundreds of applicants that had turned for the recruitment, the recruitment team only needed 105 being a slot for Tororo district.
According to the team leader Col. Saadi Katemba, most of those turned away were under or over the required age bracket of 18-22 years while others lacked national identity cards to show that they are bonefied Ugandans.
He after thorough scrutiny, only 77 out of the required 105 managed to become successful with majority of them being disqualified on medical grounds.
Col. Katemba added that the high turn up of applicants is an indication that young people have a desire to serve their country but off course the number was limited by the slots each district is allocated.
He decried the low turn up of females adding that out of the hundreds of the applicants who turned up, the female applicants were only 30.
He said the recruits had to undergo physical exercise, medical tests besides thorough scrutiny of their academic papers and identify cards.
However the Tororo district LC5 chairperson Mr. John Okeya commended the transparency exhibited during the exercise but decried the current methodology which he said leaves out many interested Ugandan.
