A SPEECH DELIVERED BY TOM Semanda ON 05/10/2024,TO MARK THE WORLD TEACHERS DAY, NAKASONGOLA DISTRICT UNDER THE THEME VALUING TEACHERS VOICES TOWARDS A SOCIAL CONTRACT................................................................

My name is Tom Semanda,and it is my pleasure to address you this afternoon on this important accasion.
Today,we mark the 54th celebration of the international teachers day, here in Nakasongola.It is therefore under my prayers that the government must address the following challenges if the country is to realize the fruits of education
a) Living conditions
b) salary disparities
c) Housing facilities
d) Students teacher ratio gap
e)Remove pension bureaucracies
f) Centralize the recurritment process at the national level for both primary and secondary.
Our dear guests,and participants,I want to report to you that in comparison to the rest of east Africa countries, Uganda pays a teacher lesser than the time invested and resources
Therefore the government needs to redefine status of the teachers by valuing them.This is because we are,the nation is.
However, Mr Museven's government has created a gap in the teaching and learning process of our teachers while at school and in their communities,where they live. I strongly condem the appeasement policy taken by the the president in disguise of prioritizing science thus creating inequality, frustration, depression,low esteem,and application for early retirement, inferiority complex etc among teachers.
If he saw that humanity courses are useless,it is therefore right to scrap them from the teaching syllabus and be deleted from the curriculum.
Recalling the introduction of UPE in 1997 ,the government is here by asked to reconsider the founding principals and objectives say universal education, otherwise much of the government programs have failed for example............
I here by with immediate effect to reconsider recruiting teachers in this financial year,to reduce teacher ratio gap,
Request the government through MOES,to always distribute schools under USSEP,and UGgift.Evidence show that some subcounties have been left behind for failure to have a lobbying capacity,power of politics,and networking, instead let the policy take its course of action without influence.
The Internet facilities, should be installed in schools to enhance the learning environment,and improve on research
Recommendations.....................................
National teachers policy of 2019 should be revisited to eliminate useless demands like attainment of a degree unless the government is funding.
Periodic recruitment of teachers in schools resource envelop permitting
Accord official burial,and accomplishing the unfinished projects started by the deceased.
Remove bureaucracies from accessing pensions .
Finally,I once again want to thank the organizers of this function and all the participants.With those few remarks,it has been my pleasure to have addressed you.
