President Yoweri Museveni has congratulated his grandson, Ruhamya Kainerugaba, and fellow Ugandan officer cadet Andrew Bakira Ruyondo after their commissioning from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK.

Bakira was named Sandhurst’s best international cadet, winning the prestigious International Sword on August 7. He was selected from 247 cadets after excelling in leadership, physical and mental resilience, attitude and military skills during the 44-week course.

Ruhamya, the eldest son of Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, joined the UPDF as a private in June 2025 before being selected for officer training at Sandhurst. Both cadets were sponsored by the UPDF and trained together throughout the programme.

Museveni also encouraged young Ugandans to consider military service, saying it provides a strong foundation.

Gen Muhoozi Arrives in Gabon for the Independence Celebrations

UPDF Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has arrived in Gabon to represent Uganda at celebrations marking the country's 66th Independence Day on August 17.

Muhoozi is leading a Ugandan delegation that includes State Minister for Agriculture Desire Muhooza, Maj. Gen. Henry Masiko and Brig. Gen. Wycliff Keita. He was received in Libreville by Gabon's Defence Minister Brig. Gen. Brigitte Onkanowa and Chief of General Staff Gen. Jean-Bédel Bouka.

The visit is also expected to include discussions on military cooperation and regional security, as Uganda and Gabon seek to deepen bilateral relations in defence, trade, tourism and health for both nations to benefit.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of a brand-new week. As I step into these coming days, please go before me, clear my mind of distractions, and guide my steps. Grant me the wisdom to make good choices, the strength to handle any challenges, and a deep sense of peace that calms all worry. Bless the work of my hands, fill my heart with joy, and let Your light shine through me as I help and treat others with kindness. In Jesus' name, amen.
