Minister Beatrice Anywar Speaks at Global Environment Congress in Russia*
St. Petersburg, Russia – May 22, 2025

Uganda’s State Minister for Environment, Hon. Beatrice Atim Anywar is in St. Petersburg for the 11th Nevsky International Ecological Congress.

As a panellist, she shared Uganda’s efforts in fighting climate change, tree planting, and empowering communities. She emphasized the vital role women play in achieving environmental goals, saying their leadership brings strength and fresh ideas.

The congress, attended by BRICS and global leaders, is focused on “Sustainable Development: How Environmental Projects Make the World a Better Place"

Hon. Anywar called for global unity in protecting the planet, affirming Uganda’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental action.

Acholi Cultural Leader and Bishops Flag Off Pilgrims to Namugongo

This evening, Ker Kwaro Acholi and Anglican bishops in Northern Uganda flagged off pilgrims walking to Namugongo for this year’s Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations.

This year, the Diocese of Northern Uganda will lead the national animation at Namugongo. During the flag-off ceremony, the Paramount Chief of Acholi, Rwot David Acana II, gave 2 million shillings to support the pilgrims as they travelled. He also wished them a safe journey and blessed their mission.

Present at the event were the Rt. Rev. Wilson Kitara, Bishop of Kitgum Diocese, and Rt. Rev. Godfrey Loum, Bishop of Northern Uganda Diocese. Both bishops prayed for the pilgrims and encouraged them to stay united and strong in faith.

The flagging off was not only for the Anglican pilgrims. Roman Catholic pilgrims also joined, and together, they were walking as one group to Namugongo.

Every year on 3rd June, Uganda celebrates Uganda Martyrs Day in Namugongo. It is a national event in memory of the brave men who died for their faith.
