OBONGI DISTRICT UNVEILS SHS1.962 BILLION ADMINISTRATION BUILDING
Obongi District Local Government in the West Nile region on Wednesday commissioned a modern, multi-story administration block, constructed at a cost of Shs1.962 billion, in a ceremony graced by top district leaders and officials.
The facility, constructed under the Development Response to Displacement Impacts Project (DRDIP), is expected to accommodate the offices of the District Chairperson and Chief Administrative Officer and over 30 staff members from the Production, Natural Resources, Planning, and Administration units.
The district has also recently commissioned several infrastructure projects worth Shs9 billion to enhance community welfare. These include the 11.8km Orinya-Kakali road (constructed under USMID-AF), a teachers' house in Alibabito, an isolation ward at Lomunga Health Centre II in Itula Sub-County, and a Shs2.9 billion solar-powered water system supplying water to Ewafa and Aliba sub-counties through 22 taps.
Mr. Benson Humphrey, the Chief Administrative Officer of Obongi, noted that the water system, funded by DRDIP, has brought relief to over 8,000 residents in water-stressed areas of Ewafa and Aliba, who previously relied on the River Nile for drinking water.
He also added that the intervention had increased water coverage in Obongi from 65% in 2019 to 80%surpassing the national average of 76%.
