Hajjat Namyalo Unleashes Anti-Poverty Drive in Katwe: ONC’s Empowerment Campaign Set to Transform Lives on July 4th.

The Office of the National Chairman (ONC), under the stewardship of Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, today held a press conference at her office in Kyambogo to officially unveil a bold and transformative anti-poverty campaign scheduled for July 4th, 2025 in Katwe, Makindye Division.

The initiative, dubbed “Abanaku Tweyambe Wealth Creation Empowerment”, is designed to boost household incomes and uplift the livelihoods of thousands of Ugandans—particularly vulnerable groups such as unemployed youth, women, the elderly, s*x workers, and slum dwellers.

Speaking at the launch, Hajjat Namyalo emphasized the campaign’s practical approach to self-empowerment through direct support. The ONC will be distributing business startup kits including salon equipment, sewing machines, carpentry tools, popcorn machines, and boda boda motorcycles—tools meant to promote self-reliance and break the cycle of poverty.

“This is just the beginning. We shall not rest until all parts of the country benefit,” she said.

While several government programs such as Emyooga, the Parish Development Model, and Operation Wealth Creation are already tackling poverty alleviation, Hajjat Namyalo revealed that President Museveni personally took interest in this unique ONC-led initiative focused on direct community empowerment.

“People from different areas have been calling us since last year, asking for support,” she noted. “I kept pushing the President, even with limited funds. My persistence paid off—and that’s why we’re here today.”

The campaign has already made its mark in various parts of the country, including Luwero, Mukono, the Acholi Sub-Region, Ankole, and others—demonstrating ONC’s commitment to extending wealth creation opportunities to all corners of Uganda in line with President Museveni’s broader vision for socio-economic transformation.

Arts Teachers in Elgon Region Reject Government's Call to Return to Class Without Equal Pay.

After the meet from State house-Nakasero,Arts teachers in the Elgon region have rejected the government's request to return to class without addressing the issue of equal pay. In a review meeting held on June 22 at RatesHotelinAmberstore-industrialdivision-Mbalecity, the teachers, represented by the Uganda Professional Humanities Teachers Union (UPHTU), resolved to stand firm on their demand for equal pay for arts teachers.

According to Mooma George, the Elgon region coordinator, the Ministry of Education and the First Lady, Janet Kataha Museveni, has advised the teachers to give the government time and return to class, citing the current focus on elections and limited funds. However, the teachers were unimpressed.

The State Minister for Higher Education, Dr. John Chrysestom Muyingo, had also attempted to persuade the teachers to return to class, arguing that the government is a better employer compared to private schools. However, the teachers remained resolute.

In response, the arts teachers cited Article 40 of the Constitution, which guarantees equal pay for equal work. They emphasized that they will not return to class until their demands are met. The teachers also warned that if arts subjects are deemed useless, the government should consider scrapping them altogether.

The teachers' resolve remains firm, and they are determined to continue their strike until their demands for equal pay are addressed."

Speaking at the 51st Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Istanbul, Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Gen. Jeje Odongo, strongly condemned the recent unprovoked aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran by Israel.

He described the attack as part of a broader pattern of hostility towards the Muslim world and a violation of international law. Uganda joined other OIC member states in calling for an immediate end to such aggression and reaffirmed Iran’s right to self-defence.

Hon. Odongo also urged the international community to uphold diplomacy, dialogue, and peaceful resolution of conflicts, noting that only through unity and respect for international norms can lasting peace be achieved.

Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety Conducts Road Safety Campaign in Bwaise Bus Terminal

A team from the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, led by the Ag. Deputy Director of Traffic, ACP Musinga Norman, and the Directorate’s Liaison Officer, SP Kananura Michael, in collaboration with the KMP North Region under the RPC, has conducted a road safety campaign at Bwaise Bus Terminal. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to reduce road traffic crashes and promote safer road use across the country.

This proactive engagement aims to raise awareness and foster dialogue with local stakeholders on critical road safety concerns. According to last year’s crime report, KMP North recorded 376 road crash fatalities, ranking it as the third most affected region in Uganda, following Rwizi and Albertine.

The campaign began with internal engagements involving all traffic officers in the region, followed by targeted outreach to key stakeholders. These included taxi operators, boda boda riders, market vendors, local council leaders, passengers, and pedestrians, among others.

The discussions focused on identifying practical interventions and reinforcing the shared responsibility in ensuring safer roads. The goal is to promote collective action, where every stakeholder understands and plays their role in reducing road crashes and saving lives.
