Madoi Accuses Deputy RCC of Voter Intimidation in Mbale Industrial City Division

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for Mayor of Mbale Industrial City Division, Abdallah Madoi, has accused the Division Deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Hamza Banja, of voter intimidation during voting at his home polling station in Namalogo.

Madoi claims the Deputy RCC’s presence caused tension at the polling station, prompting residents to demand that he leave to allow the voting process to proceed peacefully.

He further alleged that Banja ordered the arrest of Busamaga West councillor candidate Khalid Mugudwa and sponsored the assault of his agents and monitoring team in Kibiniko, Tsabanyanya, and Namatala.

According to Madoi, he later intervened to calm his supporters, enabling voting to continue, and reiterated his commitment to serving the people of Mbale Industrial City Division.

However, Deputy RCC Hamza Banja dismissed the allegations, saying no voter intimidation occurred. He explained that, as the head of security in the division, he was lawfully moving around to monitor polling stations.

Banja said he was surprised by what he described as an “attack” from Madoi, which he attributed to misinformation from the candidate’s supporters.

He clarified that while he encountered Khalid Mugudwa at the polling station, no arrest was made. Instead, Banja said he asked Mugudwa to purchase water for the security personnel before they left the area, insisting that claims of an arrest were false.
