FUFA BIG LEAGUE: Kataka FC Host Kigezi Homeboyz in Must-Win Push for UPL Promotion

Mbale based FUFA Big League side Kataka FC is set to host their second-last fixture of the season on Sunday, 24 May 2026, when they welcome table leaders Kigezi Homeboyz to Mbale City Stadium.

The club, nicknamed 'Lufumbi', is targeting all three points from the home clash to tighten its grip on the promotion race for the StarTimes Uganda Premier League in the club's history.

Speaking to Sports Route on Thursday, 21 May, the club's Public Relations Officer Kadama Yusuf, also known as Fab K Yusuf, said the team has approached the week with serious training and a strong focus on game-reading under the leadership of coach Toldo Awachang.

"The club is ready to face the opponents given the serious training sessions and game-reading mentality the club is going through," Yusuf said.

He described Sunday as Kataka's final home encounter of the campaign, before the team travels away to Soltilo Bright Stars on 7 June.

Yusuf made a direct appeal to supporters to turn up in numbers:

"I ask fans to come along with anything positive that will keep the team on track of winning the match as we look forward to gaining UPL promotion. You can support Kataka in any way, so long as it's positive."

Entry to Mbale City Stadium for the fixture has been set at UGX 5,000 as gets open at exactly 2:00pm.

The match arrives at the business end of the 2025/26 FUFA Big League, with four clubs set to be promoted to the Premier League at the end of the season.

It should be noted that Kigezi Homeboyz under the giudance of coach Sadiki Ssempigi have mathematically been promoted to the nation's top tier league, come next season, 2026/2027.

Kataka go into the weekend on the back of a one all draw against hKiyinda Boys. That result lifted the Mbale side to promotion docket, keeping them firmly in the top-four battle. Sunday's meeting in Mbale is set up as a decisive test for Kataka's Premier League ambitions.

Currently, Kataka sit fourth with 45 points. Additionally, they has the best record at home; either a win or a draw.

From Village Pitches to the Regional Stage: S.C. Elite Earn Respect in Nakaloke

Soccer Club Elite, a fast-rising club from the village of Bukiende in Mbale District, stepped out of their home area for the very first time at the weekend and went toe-to-toe with Nakaloke Corporates, one of the best-known corporate sides in the Bugisu Sub-region on Saturday 16th May, 2026 at Nakaloke playground (Theatre of the Zombies).

It was unfamiliar territory in every sense. For a team used to training on uneven village grounds and walking to matches, the short trip to Nakaloke was their first taste of football beyond Bukiende. The boys travelled light, played without fear, and left with something more valuable than points, credibility.

Nakaloke Corporates, seasoned and well-drilled, took the win with three well-taken goals. But Elite answered with one of their own and, more importantly, with a performance full of discipline, quick passing and unusual composure for such a young squad aiming at growing day and night.

Coaches and fans watching from the sidelines noted how the village lads refused to sit back. They pressed high, tracked back hard, and kept their shape even after conceding. For long spells in the second half, it was Elite not the hosts who dictated the tempo.

In Bugisu, where corporate teams like Nakaloke have long dominated weekend football with better kits, transport and facilities, a village club breaking out is rare. S.C. Elite under the leadership of Mr. Nambwira Medad have been building quietly, training day and night with full resource support, and their debut away from home suggests that work is paying off.

Losing 3-1 would normally sting. For Elite, it felt like a beginning. The goal they scored in Nakaloke was their first ever away from Bukiende. The applause they received walking off was louder than any result could measure.

Club supporters who made the journey said the match proved what they have known in the village for months: talent does not need a stadium to grow, only a chance to be seen and this is happening to the club with over 50 young and promising talents, both Boys and Girls.

Elite return to Bukiende this week with their heads high and a new target on their backs. After holding their own against a renowned Bugisu side, the next challenge will be turning respect into results and making sure their second trip out of the village is not their last. Return leg date is set to be announced.
