Mama Africa.
Before Miriam Makeba became the voice the world knew as Mama Africa, one film changed everything.

In 1959, Come Back, Africa was secretly filmed under apartheid, exposing the harsh realities of life for Black South Africans. Miriam Makeba appeared for only a few minutes, singing in a nightclub scene.

Those few minutes changed her life forever.

After leaving South Africa to attend the film's international premiere, the apartheid government revoked her passport. She was forced into exile, and for more than 30 years, she was unable to return to the country she called home.

Sometimes history isn't made by the longest performance.

Sometimes it's made by the bravest one.

Miriam Makeba didn't just sing for Africa.

She gave Africa a voice when many wanted it silenced.
