A tragic incident has been reported in Rwebikona, Mbarara City, where a man was found dead after allegedly hanging himself on a tree near National Water and Sewarage Corporation offices. Local residents made the discovery early this morning.

Police in Kanungu are searching for a man suspected of killing a 21-year-old over unknown reasons.

The suspect, identified only as Sam, allegedly killed Derrick Ainebyona, 21, before fleeing the scene.

According to a police statement, the incident occurred on September 4, 2024, at around 11:00 a.m. in Ibambiro Village, Rusoroza Parish, Kihihi Sub-county, Kanungu District. Derrick was at the home of his friend Godwin, being attended to by Judith, a female companion, when Sam confronted him. The argument escalated into a physical fight, during which Sam overpowered Derrick and killed him instantly.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region police spokesperson, told journalists that the matter was immediately reported to the LC1 chairman of Ibambiro Village, Mr. Swaibun Bahati, who informed the police.

Maate stated that detectives and a Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) visited the scene, documented evidence, and recovered the body, which was taken to Kihihi Health Center for postmortem.

He urged anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to notify the police so he can be apprehended and charged. Investigations are ongoing.

The students of Kyambogo University, under the Ntungamo University Students Association, were encouraged to prioritize their education as the foundation for their future endeavors.

This message was conveyed today by Dr. Godwin Atwine, a member of Parliament to be 2026-2031 for Kajara County in Ntungamo District, during a handover dinner hosted by the Ntungamo University Students Association.

The theme of the handover ceremony was "Sustaining Mental Health Among the Youth."

Dr. Godwin emphasized the importance of education and its correlation with discipline, respect, unity, innovation, self-employment, community engagement, effective use of technology, proper utilization of social media, and support for students' social functions.

Dr. Godwin underscored the significance of these values in shaping the students' personal and professional lives from 2026 to 2031.

Police in Kabale District are currently investigating the discovery of a decomposing body found in the construction house of a Catholic priest.

The deceased was discovered in the residence of Reverend Father Austin Christmas, located in Kyanamira parish.

According to Mr. Orikiriza Edward, the chairman of LC II Kyanamira parish in Kabale, the body was found on 10/03/2024, at approximately 09:00 AM. It was reported to Kyanamira Police station that an unknown adult male's decomposing body was hanging in the house under construction.

It is alleged that on 05/03/2024, during an inspection of the construction, Rev. Father Austin Christmas noticed a foul smell and instructed the parish catechist, Karemire Silvano, to investigate.

However, the boy was passing by the house on 10/03/2024, at around 07:00am, and discovered the body hanging from the ceiling. The catechist was informed, who then notified the LC II and the police.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region police spokesperson, stated that the body was removed and taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of death and to identify the deceased's relatives.

A report of suspected suicide was registered under reference number CRB 212/2024, and the district CID officer was informed.

Men across Kabale District have been encouraged to honor International Women's Day by showing appreciation to their wives through acts of kindness, such as giving gifts and helping with cooking duties.

The message was conveyed by Enid Origumisiriza Atuheire, well known as Aunt Enid, during her address at the burial ceremony of Sunday Ndyomugyenyi, a resident of Karengyere village in Kitooma Parish, Rubaya Sub County, Kabale District.

Aunt Enid emphasized the importance of thoughtful gestures, stating that any gift from a husband can bring joy and happiness to his wife.

Ndyomugyenyi, who recently passed away, dedicated many years of service to the National Teachers College Kabale.

In addition to his professional contributions, Aunt Enid urged the family members of Sunday Ndyomugyenyi to prioritize their faith and seek solace in God during this difficult time.

Rev. Moses Oworisaba, the parish priest of Kitooma Church of Uganda,Rukore Archdeaconry, Diocese of Kigezi, encouraging mourners to embrace the teachings of Jesus Christ as a source of comfort and strength.
