Kuacjok, Warrap State — The newly elected Chairperson of Greater Tonj Basketball Association, 𝘿𝙚𝙣𝙜 𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙠 paid a courtesy visit to the State Minister of Youth, Culture and Sports John Garang Mabior, in this week on Friday, date 29, August at the state headquarters in Kuacjok.

The meeting focused on advocating for the recognition of basketball as an active sport in Warrap State and requesting its inclusion in state-level peace tournaments, which currently only involve football and volleyball.

𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙞𝙧𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣 𝘿𝙚𝙣𝙜 𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙠 𝙏𝙝𝙪𝙘 accompanied by his cabinet, expressed concern over basketball being left out of major sports events despite its growing popularity among youth in the region and world wide.

In response, 𝙟𝙤𝙝𝙣 𝙂𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙈𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙤𝙧 the Minister warmly welcomed the delegation, expressing appreciation for their initiative. “This office is for all of you,” the Minister said. “Any challenge you face as basketball players will be addressed, as long as it’s reported.”

The visit marks a hopeful step toward broader recognition and support for basketball across Warrap State.

Youth-Led Organization, Speak Africa Launches First Tonj Inter-School Debate Competition. 22/8/2025.

A new youth initiative is bringing a fresh wave of intellectual excitement to Greater Tonj. The newly formed organization Speak Africa, founded by recent local high school graduates, will host its first inter-school debate competition this Friday 22/8/2025. The inaugural debate will feature teams from Tonj Girl Primary School and Bongo Primary School arguing the timely motion: Boys and Girls should perform same duties at home.

This provocative topic is at the heart of the organizers' mission to boost critical thinking and empower young people. By challenging traditional perspectives on gender roles and family responsibility, Speak Africa aims to spark meaningful conversation that contributes to a more equitable and brighter future for the community. Vice President Josephine Lagu Yanga Meets Minister of General Education on Release of 2024 Senior Four Examination Results which will be Released Tomorrow Morning.

The National Minister of General Education and Instructions, Hon. Kuyok Abol Kuyok, accompanied by Hon. Martin Tako, Deputy Minister of General Education and Instructions, and the Secretary General of the National Examination Council, met with H.E. Josephine Lagu Yanga, Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan and Chairperson of the Service Cluster, to brief her on the 2024 Senior Four Examination results.

Hon. Kuyok noted that the results had been presented to H.E. the President, who formally endorsed their release. He described the meeting with the Vice President as constructive, highlighting her input as an educationist on critical challenges facing the sector.

Key areas discussed included:
• Teachers Training: Improving training, especially for science teachers, to boost student performance.
• Girls’ Education: Addressing dropout rates and supporting the establishment of boarding secondary schools for girls.

Hon. Kuyok announced that the 2024 Senior Four Results will be officially released tomorrow morning, enabling candidates to access their results and pursue higher education opportunities.

The discussions reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening education, expanding access, and ensuring quality learning opportunities for all children of South sudan.
