Super Computers enable scientists observing and studying the atmosphere to make important discoveries and interpretations on vast amounts of data that is collected regarding the performance of various elements in the atmosphere. Through collection of this data the past, present and likely performance of the weather and climate can be predicted. The African Climate Communication Institute in collaboration with the Network of Climate Journalists in the Greater Horn of Africa will deliver to you a series of articles to enable you learn and understand how the super computers help us in various aspects of our lives. The information generated can provide critical planning material for policy makers, companies, defense, farmers, transportation as well as construction and infrastructural development, strategic planning for commodity purchase, storage and sale, health planning, trade and commerce and the economy in general. Learn and understand how the GDP and income per capita can be enhanced using these super computer technologies. Please pass the word around and join in this interesting learning process over the coming several days in July.

Mr. Strive Masiyiwa, Executive Chairman and Founder of Econet Wireless and Board Chair, Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA). He gives us food for thought as we ponder how to make the agriculture revolution happen within our times. Drawing from his experience as a successful African business leader, and in light of the many challenges facing Africa today, Masiyiwa argues that what the continent needs is a new generation of ‘heroes’ that come with fresh ideas and vision, and are ready to respond to the challenges that could determine the faith of the continent. With the World Bank estimating that the agricultural market potential in Africa will be worth $1 trillion by 2030, he explains why agriculture is a critical field of action for these heroes. In this Opinion Piece, Masiyiwa celebrates heroes of our time as such as Akinwumi Adesina, now President of the African Development Bank, and explains how a new prize seeks to find individuals across Africa that are driving bold initiatives and technical innovations that can be replicated with excellence throughout the continent. Enjoy:

By Strive Masiyiwa, For most people, the notion of a hero conjures up images of brave individuals risking their lives for others, or “superheroes” from comic books or films, armed with supernatural powers.
