Robert Heaton, Southern Pines Deputy Chief of Police, confirmed to Sandhills Sentinel that the Southern Pines Police Department responded to Brookside Apartments following the report of shots being fired into a unit, leaving one person injured. Heaton added that one or more of the suspect(s) involved were reported to have fled the scene in a white SUV.

Aberdeen police say a Fayetteville man has been charged in connection with a reported shoplifting case that led to a vehicle pursuit through a residential area last month.

Police said officers were called to Burlington on Nov. 15 for a reported larceny in progress involving two people who were allegedly filling two carts with merchandise and trying to leave the store.

A car crashed into the back of a log truck stopped at a traffic light in Robbins on Wednesday morning, injuring the driver of the car.

Authorities on scene told Sandhills Sentinel that the truck driver continued down Plank Road, unaware that the truck had been hit.

At a recent meeting on Dec. 8, the Aberdeen Board of Commissioners discussed a full agenda of items over a span of nearly three hours.

Notably, the commissioners reviewed a detailed water, sewer, and stormwater capacity briefing; ultimately postponed action on a proposed Highway 5 corridor overlay after property owners raised concerns; and expanded operating hours for the downtown social district.

The Moore County Board of Education voted Dec. 8 to revise its separation allowance policy for school resource officers in an effort to strengthen recruitment and retention.

The change reduces the required years of full-time service with Moore County Schools from 10 to 8 for officers hired after April 7, 2014. Eligible officers will receive the full benefit after eight years if they meet the policy’s retirement criteria.

Officers were sent to the building on North Poplar Street around 12:15 p.m. As they were on the way, dispatchers relayed reports that people inside believed they had heard gunfire.

However, Aberdeen Police Operations Captain Shannon Blackburn told Sandhills Sentinel that the commotion started when a customer in the water department became angry and damaged town property, proceeding to smash holiday decorations and nearby items.
