“Tell your itty bitty sh*tty committee to shut up!”said Christy Larson on my podcast. Listen to Episodes 46 & 47 to hear her backstory. She ruined her good life, health, & fitness when she started drinking at age 50! She even drank while running on the treadmill! In 2 years, she almost died from a pulmonary embolism, was diabetic, gained 78 lb, among other problems. Today, she has been sober for 3 years, regained her fitness, became a health coach, and ran her first marathon at age 55!

Listen to my latest podcast with Gregory David (episodes 43 & 44)!

A parachute jumper, photographer, filmmaker, a survivor, and a witness to the history of apartheid growing up in South Africa in the 1970s and 80s. Gregory David has done 4,000 parachute jumps, one of which almost killed him. In 1981, his parachutes collapsed — he fell 60 feet and broke his back. He chose to heal without surgery, against the advice of the doctors, and miraculously recovered to jump again, and stay active. Hear how Gregory has started his life over several times, from accidents, careers, political upheaval, and love.

Enter for your chance to win one of five copies of Joel Karsten's straw bale gardening books!

Spring is almost here — and there's no better time to start growing your own food. Joel Karsten has transformed how communities around the world grow vegetables using nothing but straw bales. No garden bed? No problem. No yard? No problem. His breakthrough method lets you grow anywhere — on a city balcony, in rocky soil, or even in the desert — earlier in the year, with no weeding.

Joel joined Sally on Episode 18 of the Unstoppable podcast to share his incredible story. Enter now through April 30, 2026 at www.unstoppablestoriesthatmove.com .

Why are you Unstoppable?

Here are everybody's answers! (Picture taken at the end of the expo at Grandma's Marathon June 2025 in Duluth, MN USA). It was amazing to hear stories from so many people about why they are Unstoppable. Kids drew pictures. Several people came back, and brought their friends to add to the poster. Most people walking by just paused a little bit to read what other people wrote. One of my reasons is "I am enough." Then I added "Mike" (my husband) and cut it into a heart and put it on on top! (Mike was also talking to people at the expo.) Expand the picture to read it better, and tell us your reason here.

Why are you Unstoppable?

I'd love to know. Other people want to know. Just add your answer in the comments. Your first instinct is the right one. Just put it down.

What makes you Unstoppable?

0.0001% toward goal because of BJ

My goal is to raise $1 million for medical research. At Grandma's Marathon (June 2025 in Duluth, MN USA), I got my first donation! $10 from Garry Bjorklund*, no less! And I didn't even ask him, he just opened his wallet and slammed down $10 bucks and said "Here, I'll help you out!" How nice!? The journey of 1,000 steps starts with 1.
Thanks Garry!

*Garry Bjorklund (aka BJ) is the 1st winner of Grandma's Marathon in 1977,
AND an Olympian,
AND a MN hometown hero,
AND one of Grandma's races is named after him... you know...'The Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon' that's all over your t-shirts.
Yeah, THAT Garry Bjorklund!

Officially registered my new charity!

On Monday, June 9, 2025, sitting alone by myself in a hotel room in Simsbury, Connecticut (far away from home) after my 169th marathon, I finally did it. I officially registered my non-profit charity for medical research with the state of Minnesota. What to call it? I've been debating...it's boring, but I gotta start somewhere...it's the "SA Hed Fund"...my maiden name, because it's about that part of me, the scared little girl who is afraid of dying.

Starting a Podcast with a Mission - I'm not ready, but I'm doing it anyway!

I've always wanted to raise $1 million dollars for medical research. But how do I do that without badgering my friends for money? In early February 2025, I shared my dream with my friend Mattie who suggested that I start a podcast. A what? A PODCAST!
Yeah..maybe...that might work. I've met so many amazing people throughout my running hobby and always thought they should be on Netflix or in a book. Maybe I could start a podcast about all the inspiring people I've been meeting while running?
I could profile all these (mostly) normal people who do incredible things: WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE & WHY DO THEY DO CRAZY STUFF? because it's an essential part of who they are: they're following their passion, living their dreams, helping themselves, engaging with someone else, or building their community. It's their passion and their identity.
Ordinary people doing Extra-Ordinary things. Then I could use the podcast to promote the charity! I love this idea!
I should interview my friend Christelle D. who was running her 300th marathon in Wilmington, NC. She'd be perfect! Then I found our her friend Charlotte was also running her 300th marathon! I didn't want to miss it, but hadn't signed up yet. I had to start immediately!
With just 2 weeks notice, I bought equipment, hired a guy (Josh) to help me edit, talked to the race director (Tom), convinced my husband (Mike) to come as my AV guy, and we did it! I got to interview Christelle, Charlotte, and Thanh (another mega-marathoner) and meet some really inspiring people. And, I finally got to visit my cousin Jeff who moved to Cape Fear 30 years ago!
It was so much fun, laughing and chatting together at the expo and after-party. And we had a great time at the marathon. We run by ourselves, but it helps to have a community.
I met my goal to finish under 6 hours at 5:59:32!
