Truckers, please make sure you're getting good, deep, restorative sleep.

Failure to do so is described in the article I'm sharing.

Vicki Simons

Studies have found that just one night of sleep deprivation can reduce muscle protein synthesis by 18%, increase cortisol by 21% and drop testosterone by 24%, effectively promoting muscle breakdown, instead of muscle repair and growth.

Lack of sleep creates a stressful state for the body, leading to an overproduction of cortisol, the primary stress hormone.

Cortisol is a catabolic hormone that promotes muscle breakdown. Conversely, testosterone is a key anabolic hormone that promotes muscle growth.

Sleep deprivation disrupts the body’s natural circadian rhythms and hormone secretion patterns, leading to persistently elevated levels of cortisol and reduced levels of testosterone.

Testosterone like other anabolic hormones (like growth hormone and IGF-1) positively regulate muscle protein synthesis by activating the Pl3K/Akt/m/TOR/ pathway.

Cortisol activates pathways that promotes muscle protein degradation, counteracting the effects of anabolic hormones.

The disruption of the hormonal environment and biological rhythms due to poor sleep negatively affects skeletal muscle metabolism, reducing the rates of protein synthesis required for muscle repair and growth.

1. Regarding Charlie Kirk and NTDAW:
Charlie Kirk
I consider the broader context of the assassination of Charlie Kirk -- and what has transpired since then -- to be important for the trucking industry and professional truck drivers.
According to the About page of TPUSA.com -- the website for Turning Point, the organization founded by Charlie Kirk -- this is what the organization is about:

We are committed to identifying, educating, training, and organizing students to promote freedom.
Turning Point USA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2012 by Charlie Kirk.

1. Regarding ELDs, holiday, immigration, and language:

ELDs

How many times will the FMCSA reject the use of certain ELDs after they once previously required only self-certification of the products?

Others within the trucking industry were speaking out against the Electronic Logging Devices "mandate" long before December 4, 2017, but you may read my commentary on the mandate.

In TDMST Weekly Round-Up: 2017.12.09, I quoted Indiana's Attorney General, Curtis Hill, regarding the self-certification provision regarding ELDs.

Holiday
Labor Day weekend is here and is a prime time for cargo thieves to be prowling around.

Look at your tractor and trailer from the standpoint of a would-be thief to make it as hard to open and steal from as possible!

1. Regarding immigration, language, non-domiciled CDLs, and qualifications:
The topics in this section are in some way related to the fatal crash that happened when an illegal alien driving a large truck attempted to make an illegal u-turn in Florida on Tuesday, August 12, according to this article.

I express my deep sympathy -- and offer my condolences -- to the families of those whose loved ones died in this crash.

It brings me no joy after people have died to underscore the importance of the need for all drivers in the USA -- not just truckers -- to be able to read, write, and speak English since road signs are all in English.

Article Spotlight
Chain laws
Dated August 12, 2025, the subtitle of the article in this section is:
From Colorado's September 1 mandate to Oregon's $880 fines, here's what drivers need to know about when, where and how to chain up
Furthermore, the article states:
Chain law ignorance isn’t a defense. With some states now issuing fines approaching $900 for a single violation and penalties that can top $1,000 for blocking highways, understanding when to carry, when to install, and how to use chains properly has become a critical safety and financial issue for every driver running freight through snow country.

Article Spotlight

How big of a deal is drowsy driving?

Ask "27-year-old truck driver Alexis Osmani Gonzalez-Companion fell asleep at the wheel" according to this article:

- Former drivers say trucking company in I-20 drowsy driving crash pressured them into unsafe driving

In a nutshell, this trucker who fell asleep at the wheel:

- ended up causing a fatal crash that killed 5 people;
- "was indicted on five counts of manslaughter and four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon"; and
- "is currently being held on bonds totaling $2.25 million."

Ouch!

The article in this section lists 3 quotes -- from UK Guardian, AccuWeather, and Newsweek -- about a US heat dome that could be lethal.

1. Regarding article spotlight, inspections, issues, OOIDA, and tariffs:
Article Spotlight
I'm speculating that the trucker referenced in the article in this section:

- either didn't know about the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) known as § 392.5 Alcohol prohibition;
- or thought getting caught was a low risk.

The offense? According to the article:

, officers 4 empty and 3 unopened bottles of beer ... within the vehicle.

Getting caught led to being "placed out-of-service immediately for a period of 24 hours."
Ouch! That's a day's pay that won't be earned or received.
Assuming there was a load on the trailer, who knows how much trouble resulted from the trucker's company, the shipper, or the receiver.

1. Regarding Amazon, events, holidays, inspection, and weather:

Amazon

The two articles in this section indicate a very interesting snapshot of the economy in the USA.

As large as Amazon.com is, if this company is experiencing economic difficulties, then who else may be experiencing them?

If I counted correctly, I have received 20 emails from Amazon.com (as a customer) since July 1.

That doesn't count the push notifications and associate emails.
