As many of you have heard Tom Wetzen "Coach" passed away last Saturday. Due to the social distancing there will not be calling hours or a funeral Mass at this time. However, he will be laid to rest tomorrow (Friday, May 1) in St. Teresa's Cemetery on Bloomingdale Road. To honor him there will be a procession. If you would like to wave or show your respect to his two daughters, the procession will leave Ross Funeral Home at 2 pm. It will go down Eckerson Avenue to Cedar Street up Cedar to John to Buffalo Street to Main Street. Up Main Street past his house to Townsend to Bloomingdale. They will pull in to the school fields driveway past Wetzen field and then proceed to the cemetery. It would be appreciated that you are on the route and not in the procession. Only the family will be allowed in the cemetery due to social distancing and the families request for privacy. Let's show the Wetzen Family our Akron love and how loved Coach was by all of us.
Given that schools are closed for the rest of the year, will Newstead/Akron Schools give a refund on school taxes? After all no fuel costs, no school building costs, no school costs aside from some reveiwing home work... Should we as Newstead residents expect a refund on our school taxes? Maybe even a lower bill next year?
