North Carolina is 282 days without a state budget. 282. If I didn't a household budget for 282 days, I wouldn't have a home anymore. It was my honor to speak at our most recent School Board meeting regarding the budget and the need to support our students to the fullest. Sometimes advocacy is neat and perfect, sometimes it's messy and real. I appreciate everyone who took the time to speak their hearts on behalf of our students, and staff. They ARE our future. We need to take care of them!

Public School Strong is conducting a listening survey to gain insight into the state of local schools and concerns of its students, parents/guardians, staff, stakeholders, and school board members. I am sharing this survey in an effort to have our local community represented in this survey. This was one of the non-profits that I had spoken with, aside from Pleasant Grove's PTA, as a place to disburse any campaign funds left over after the adventure this cycle. While I did not raise any contributions, this organization could greatly benefit from OUR support. One way we can easily support is shared below, rounding up at Wal-Mart. Small efforts like this can add up, if enough of us do it. Fresh Start Alamance, Inc. has provided numerous services to those affected by poverty and homelessness in the past, but is struggling due to falling financial support. They are focused on street outreach directly with the homeless, making real differences in the daily experience of those in our community. Ms. Janet needs us! Let's lift her spirit by supporting their efforts!
