Dear friends and art lovers, I am a local Alameda artist, art teacher and parent. I have been teaching art to kids/ young adults through the after school AUSD programs and have enjoyed teaching painting and clay sculpting classes. As we all hunker down with social distancing, I am adding 2 weekly ZOOM art classes to help tap into creativity and have fun during these stressful times. 1. For kids/ young adults: This class will focus on live demonstration, interaction and online & offline feedback on student work. The class will be on Wednesdays @ 3-4pm starting April 22nd. Price is $30/ class or $100/ 4 classes bought together. Students can work while I demonstrate in any medium of choice. Please see testimonials at https://mandarfineart.com/art-workshop-testimonials/ and also check out the ‘Kids Corner’. 2. For adults on Thursdays 6:30-7:30PM PST. Mediums: Pastels / Acrylics. Price is $25. Live demo. You can paint along if you like. Feedback on student work provided. See more at https://mandarfineart.com/upcoming-workshops/ Please pm me or email @ [email protected] for details if interested. Pls share with friends and family who could be interested. 🙏 and stay safe and healthy.

We found a french bulldog this evening by St Barnabas Church on 6th street on the west side. It has no collar but I'm sure belongs to someone who I'm sure would love it back. Let me know if this is your dog or someone you know 347-452-3799. It is in our backyard right now because we can't have dogs in our house.
Beginning in December, 2018, the Alameda City Council took actions to support a 140-bed regional facility for Alameda County’s homeless, ages 18 and over, in Alameda. This facility will be located on McKay Avenue, adjacent to Crown Memorial State Beach and Crab Cove Visitor Center, on the San Francisco Bay and within walking distance to Maya Lin and Paden Elementary Schools, Washington Park, and Webster Street Business District. Each year, over 1.5 million visitors, including from all over the San Francisco Bay area, use Crown Memorial State Beach and the San Francisco Bay Trail and tens of thousands of school children visit Crab Cove. California has environmental laws to protect our environment for us, our children and generations to come. The broadest is the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”). Unfortunately, we believe that the City of Alameda failed to comply with these requirements. There are serious concerns of toxic contamination of the buildings and ground at the proposed site. We also want to ensure that the nearby parks, beach, and our San Francisco Bay are protected. Thus, soon after the City moved forward with the regional homeless facility, community members filed a lawsuit in the Alameda County Superior Court, Case No. RG18933140, to ensure compliance. ( http://www.alameda.courts.ca.gov/Pages.aspx/DomainWeb) Even though this legal approach has been brought in other cities across California, and is now being considered in San Francisco, in March, 2019, the City of Alameda filed a Motion to Dismiss our case in its entirety. After careful review, in May, the Court denied the City’s motion, agreeing with us that our case should proceed. The Court has now set a hearing on Friday, June 21, 2019. Part of this type of legal action requires a complete Administrative Record of relevant documents so that the Court can make a decision. We are expecting to receive the cost of that Administrative Record at this hearing, which we estimate to be about $35,000, but we won’t know the exact amount until we receive the bill. Upon receipt, we will have about one week to pay the money. Thus, through this effort, we are hoping to raise at least $40,000 before June 27, 2019. Please join us in our effort. Your support, of any amount, is greatly appreciated. All monies raised will go first to the costs of our litigation (e.g., the Administrative Record) and then towards our attorney fees on this effort. As of this time, our attorney is Barbara Thomas, Esq., an Alameda resident and former Vice Mayor and City Council Member. Help spread the word!https://www.gofundme.com/safe-alameda-for-all
