The Call of the Wild is now in theaters. Starring Harrison Ford. "Buck", the St. Bernard-Scotch Collie, is computer-animated into the film to maintain consistency and to let Buck go through rough circumstances in the movie that the filmmakers would not want a real dog to go through according to Chris Sanders, the film's director. I still think the dog will be my favorite character, no offense Mr. Ford.

On Sunday, March 3 at 3:00pm, The Skidmore College Orchestra will present an exciting concert featuring “American Originals”. The concert will include movements 2 and 3 of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with student concerto competition winner Spencer Anderson’19. Student flute soloist Michelle Kurz’19, winner of the 2nd place prize in this year’s concerto competition will also perform with the fist movement of the very melodic and beautiful Reinecke Flute Concerto. “American Originals” is the theme of the concert, which features several works by American composers including a WORLD PRMIERE by student composer Sophie Kastner’19 in a newly completed work entitled “The Hunter”, recently revised just for the Skidmore College Orchestra. Conductor Anthony Holland will also lead the orchestra in several works by iconic American Composer Charles Ives, including “The Yale-Princeton Football Game”, “Postlude in F” and the Finale of Ives’ Symphony No. 2, complete with a ‘surprise ending! Maestro Holland will also conduct his own composition “Sunflight”, a concerto for ‘roving flute ensemble’ and orchestra. A flute ensemble of 10 players will be moving around the large and acoustically fabulous Zankel concert hall during the performance of this work….synchronizing with the on stage orchestra and eventually landing front and center on stage for the huge finale and end of the concert. A NOT TO BE MISSED event…. With the flute ensemble conducted by Dr. Jan Vinci, Skidmore’s Senior Artist in residence in flute and winds.
