Melissa made landfall in Jamaica as a Category 5 hurricane this afternoon. This is when it first made landfall, around 1:04 p.m. EST.
Winds were sustained at about 185 MPH with gusts upwards of 200 MPH.
There was significant lightning reported in the eyewall of the storm along with torrential rainfall being forecast for western Jamaica as well.
The storm has weakened as of right now, down to a Category 4 but, it will still track over Jamaica, still providing devastating impacts for those in Jamaica before it moves off towards the north, hitting Cuba and the Bahamas, later this week.

The severe threat has officially ended for those of us in the News10 area. But the threat remains for those in Massachusetts and Connecticut as a very active line of rain, wind, and hail continues to move further south and east. There were damages reported from strong winds and hail in southern Columbia County, and a report of ping pong ball-sized hail in the Berkshires.

We will continue to keep you updated as the radar updates. For now, most of us are in the clear in the Capital Region, with only a few showers left in the forecast.
