The Buzz About the Buzzes

Three kittens were rescued from the woods of Siletz at the start of last summer, and from the moment they were safe, they made an impression. These tiny survivors quickly won the hearts of their rescuers—and ours. PURR welcomed Diva (now happily adopted) along with siblings Buzz and Prada.

So why “the Buzzes”? Because the instant they realize attention is headed their way, they rev up their purr motors with their whole little kitty hearts.

Prada is a stunning, regal black cat with main-character energy. While she’s no villain, The Devil Wears Prada did come to mind as her personality emerged. She has a good relationship with other cats but will absolutely bully a cat twice her size...just because she can. Her favorite target? Edward, a big white cat who usually never gets picked on. Despite her sass, Prada adores people and is quick to snuggle in and purr the moment she sees an opening.

Buzz—short for Buzz Lightyear—is the only boy of the bunch and a champion purr machine. He lives for human companionship, snuggling close at bedtime and lulling you to sleep with his gentle rumble. By day, he plays hard: curious, smart, and into everything. Buzz would thrive in a home with kids or active humans who want a playful companion.

Prada and Buzz are both ready for their forever homes. They are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, FelV/FIV tested, microchipped, and routinely flea treated.

To meet these sweet buzz-makers—or any PURR adoptable—contact Vickie at PURR,541-270-7744, or find us on Petfinder. Please note that adopters must agree to keep kitties indoors only for the safety of these loves.

SPIRIT Horse of the Month
He is a beautiful dark brown Thoroughbred type. Came to us May5-2011 (geld 10-7-2011 DVM Braat) thru a law enforcement boarding-breeding stable closure. It was out of our County but they asked us to take him. He was used as a teaser stud, very neglected, body score of 2 (see all his bones), nervous, high energy, no trust for anything, and no ground manners. It took several years and lots of work to get him where he could be handled. Now he is part of our Healing Hearts with Horses Program. He is in a stall that has the back door open, he decides when he has greeted enough people and just leaves the stall.

Come see Spirit and the other beautiful rescued animals with our first of this year opening program at the facility April 25th, hours between 1 and 3 pm. We will have carrots and apples, or you can bring your own. Learn about each animals struggles to survive and enjoy a useful life. We are fully handicap accessible and welcome wheelchairs, walkers, etc. Please bring a chair if you would like to sit and just enjoy the animals and conversation.

Be Seen Where You Are: The Power of Community Visibility

April brings movement back into our communities. Storefronts feel more active, events start filling the calendar, and people begin looking for places to go, shop, and connect again.

This is the season where visibility matters most—not just online, but within your own community.

Because growth doesn’t start with reaching more people.

It starts with being seen by the right people—the ones already around you.

Visibility Starts Local

Before your business expands outward, it needs to be rooted where it stands.

The customers walking through your doors, attending local events, and supporting nearby businesses are your strongest foundation. And the businesses that grow sustainably are the ones that show up consistently in those spaces.

That visibility isn’t complicated—but it is intentional.

It looks like:

Being present at local events
Collaborating with neighboring businesses
Participating in community conversations
Making your business recognizable and approachable

When people see you regularly, they begin to remember you.
When they remember you, they begin to trust you.

Your Presence Is Your Positioning

In a busy marketplace, people don’t always choose the “best” option—they choose the one that feels most familiar.

That familiarity is built through presence.

It’s the business they’ve seen at events. The one another local owner mentioned. The one that consistently shows up, supports others, and stays active.

This is where digital visibility supports your efforts—not replaces them.

When your online presence reflects your local activity, it reinforces what people are already experiencing in real life.

Three Ways to Strengthen Your Community Visibility This Month

Show Up in Shared Spaces
Markets, pop-ups, local events, and community gatherings are opportunities to be seen in real time. Even a small presence creates recognition.
Build Business-to-Business Relationships
Your network is one of your strongest growth tools. When local businesses support and refer each other, everyone benefits.
Stay Active and Recognizable
Consistency matters more than scale. Regularly showing up—in person and online—builds familiarity, and familiarity builds trust.

The businesses gaining traction right now are not necessarily the ones doing the most marketing—they’re the ones most present.

They are:
Visible in their community
Connected to other business owners
Consistent in how they show up

And because of that, they stay top of mind.

A Thought to Carry Into April

You don’t need to be everywhere to grow.

You need to be recognizable where you are.

Because when your community knows you, supports you, and talks about you—your visibility expands naturally.

If you’re looking for ways to strengthen your presence within your community...

I’m always available to connect, share ideas, and help you identify simple ways to increase your visibility where it matters most.

A Mother’s Love

“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.”
Proverbs 31:28

Some of the most powerful love in this world is not just given, it is chosen. My mother is kind, giving, and willing to do anything to help another. Through the years, she has shown her love and devotion to me in ways both big and small, from the very beginning. I am adopted, yet I have never questioned whether I was truly hers. I have always felt loved completely, deeply, and without condition. Her life has been a quiet testimony of faithfulness. She cared for our family without complaint, giving of herself again and again, not for recognition, but out of love. That kind of love reflects the very heart of God, a love that chooses, a love that stays, a love that never wavers.

“But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.”Galatians4:4-7

Adoption is a beautiful picture of God’s love for us. We are chosen, brought into His family, and loved as His own. In the same way, my mother chose to love me, and in that choice, she gave me a gift beyond measure and a foundation of security, belonging, and grace.

“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” Jeremiah 31:3

Mother’s Day is fast approaching! I honor my mother, not just for what she has done, but for who she is: a woman of compassion, strength, and unwavering love. Her life reminds me that love is not defined by biology, but by commitment, sacrifice, and the willingness to give your heart fully to another. She taught me often through example; for example, she would stand at the K-Mart doors until I opened them for her. This was an important lesson that I often forget!

Motherhood is one of the clearest reflections of God’s love we see on this earth. A mother gives, nurtures, protects, andloves, often without recognition and always without condition. Whether through gentle words, tireless sacrifice, or quiet prayers whispered in the night, a mother’s love leaves a lasting imprint on the hearts of her children.

God designed a mother’s heart to mirror His own, full of compassion, patience, and grace. Just as God never leaves us nor forsakes us, a mother stands steady, even in life’s storms. Her strength is not only in what she does, but in who she trusts. Many mothers carry burdens silently yet continue to pour out love faithfully.

My mom has taught me the value of giving, loving others, and doing my best to not complain. Thank you mom for being the best teacher in my life! Happy Mother’s Day!

Planning Summer Trips with Seniors

It is only March, but summer is coming fast. If you are hoping to take a trip with an older parent, grandparent, or another senior you care about, now is the time to start planning. Travel can be a wonderful way to make memories, reconnect with family, and enjoy a change of scenery. It can also become stressful quickly if comfort, mobility, and health needs are treated as last-minute details.

The good news is that planning ahead makes a huge difference. With a few smart choices now, you can set up a summer trip that feels relaxed, accessible, and genuinely enjoyable for everyone.

Start With the Right Kind of Trip

The best senior-friendly trips begin with an honest look at pace. Many seniors can absolutely travel and have a great time, but they often enjoy travel differently than they did twenty years ago. A trip that includes long walking days, late nights, and tight schedules can leave them exhausted and uncomfortable.

Instead, aim for a destination and itinerary that matches their energy level and interests. Consider the climate, too. Summer heat can be draining, especially in cities with lots of walking. Coastal destinations, mountain towns, or places with easy indoor options can be more comfortable. Trip length matters as well. A shorter trip with a calmer pace can be far more enjoyable than a longer trip that feels like a marathon.

Choose Senior-Friendly Transportation

Transportation can set the tone for the whole trip. If the travel day is exhausting, everything else becomes harder.

If you are driving, plan frequent breaks and keep the car comfortable. Bring water, snacks that work with any dietary needs, and a light layer in case the air conditioning is chilly. Try to avoid pushing through long stretches without stopping. A slower pace often makes the day feel easier and safer.

If you are flying, plan for comfort and simplicity. Nonstop flights are ideal when possible. If you can, choose an aisle seat for easier access. Many airports offer wheelchair assistance and early boarding, which can reduce stress and physical strain. It is also worth planning extra time so you are not rushing through terminals.

Trains, cruises, and buses can be good options, too, depending on the senior’s mobility and comfort. The best choice is usually the one that allows easy movement, access to restrooms, and the least amount of stress.

Book Accommodations with Comfort in Mind

Where you stay matters just as much as where you go. A great destination can feel like a poor choice if the hotel has stairs everywhere, limited seating, or a bathroom that is hard to navigate.

Look for practical accessibility, not just a label. Elevators, minimal stairs, safe bathroom setups, and easy entry can make the stay much smoother. If the senior has any mobility challenges, consider whether the room has a walk-in shower, enough space to move around, and stable seating.

Location also plays a major role. A hotel that is close to the main sights can reduce the need for long walks or complicated transportation. A quieter setting can also help seniors rest well, especially if they are sensitive to noise.

If accessibility is important, call ahead and confirm details. The word “accessible” can mean different things in different places, and it is better to know in advance than to be surprised at check-in.

Health, Medications, and Safety Essentials

A little preparation around health needs can prevent major problems later. Start with medications. Make sure there is enough for the entire trip, plus extra in case of delays. Keep medications in original bottles and pack them in a carry-on if flying. It is also wise to carry a written medication list that includes dosages.

It helps to plan for medical needs in a simple, practical way. Bring insurance cards and emergency contact information. Identify an urgent care center nearby, especially if you are traveling to a remote location. None of this is meant to be alarming. It is simply the kind of planning that makes travel feel safer.

Since summer travel often means heat and sun, plan accordingly. Hydration, shade, and breaks in air-conditioned places can matter more than you think. If the senior uses a cane walker, or wheelchair, consider whether you need to rent equipment at the destination. Many places offer rentals, but availability is better when arranged early.

Food, Bathrooms, and the Comfort Details That Matter

Some of the biggest travel stress comes from small comfort issues. Planning for them makes the trip go more smoothly.

Bathrooms are one of the most important considerations. If you are driving, plan regular stops. If you are sightseeing, know where restrooms are and build them into the day. Seniors are often more comfortable when they do not feel rushed or worried about finding a restroom quickly.

Food planning also matters. Try to avoid long waits at restaurants. If possible, choose places with comfortable seating and manageable noise. Keep simple snacks available so blood sugar does not drop and energy stays steady. And even in cooler climates, remind everyone to drink water throughout the day.

Many caregivers find it helpful to pack a small comfort kit. It does not have to be complicated. A few basics like water, snacks, wipes, sunscreen, a hat, and a light layer can make a big difference.

Keeping Seniors Included and Stress Low

One of the best ways to plan a successful trip is to involve the senior in decisions early. Ask what they are most excited about. What is one thing they truly want to do or see? What would make the trip feel comfortable for them? When seniors feel heard, they are more likely to enjoy the experience and less likely to feel like a burden.

It also helps to set expectations with everyone traveling. A senior-friendly pace is not a compromise. It is a different style of travel, and it often leads to a better experience for the whole group. If someone needs to rest while others keep exploring, that is fine. Having a backup plan for downtime prevents frustration.

If you are hoping to travel with a senior this summer, start now. A little planning today can lead to a much smoother, happier trip later.
