Founded in 2003 by a unique mix of business and academic leaders in Research Triangle Park, ISD is currently supporting disaster recovery, residence, and sustainable development projects across ten time zones, and from Canada to Guatemala.

Several different elements to consider here: on the plus side, this means US may conserve more green space than previously forecasted, as population shifts to corridors and clusters. On the other hand, it may exacerbate a two-tier economy, and increase the differences in opportunities and access between rural and urban regions. So is this a good thing or a bad thing? Thoughts?

We're also accelerating our research program to identify recovery and resilience best practices, and supporting an initiative to do field assessments to identify major needs and develop "punch list" opportunities for skills-based volunteers. The Institute for Sustainable Development announces it's initiation of a long-term business recovery program in the south-eastern Texas region in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. After-effects of such a disaster can scar commerce and business, and ISD is fully committed to this cause and rehabilitating the negative externalities of such an event.
