"Hey guys! My name is Zia, and I'm this year's Social Media Team Manager. I joined tjTODAY as an 8th period staff writer my sophomore year and was a member of the Social Media Team last year. The part of being a journalist that drew me in the most is being able to write features - I've learned so much about the students and clubs at Jefferson and I love sharing your stories. Fun fact: A Letter to the Editor was written about one of my features! That was pretty much the peak of my career 🥺

Outside of journalism, I like doing math for fun, listening to music, writing and reading poetry, watching anime, cooking, and baking!

I hope to major in Biology or Mathematics and minor in Journalism or Creative Writing. In the future, I want to do research and teach English in Japan.

Please reach out to me if you have any questions, concerns, or stories to share, or if you just want to chat! I'm always here to listen:)" - Zia Sun, Social Media Team Manager

"Hi! I’m Rachel Lewis, and I am a TJ Media team leader for the 2020-2021 school year. I have been a TJ Media staff member since freshman year.

I like to read anything, especially fiction; swim anytime, but especially in the summer; and bake any delicious food, but especially cakes. Fun fact: I cannot snap, and I only recently learned how to whistle.

I am interested in journalism because, as a subject and as a profession, it enables me and others to investigate intriguing personal stories and surprising new science in order to present it to the world. Journalists inform and are informed by students, activists, florists, engineers, lawnmowers, and everyone in between - everyone and everything has something to say. I am undecided as to what, exactly, my major or future career will be. However, I know that I would like to work to benefit people in need and/or the environment, possibly in relation to public policy." - Rachel Lewis, Team Leader

"Hey everyone! My name’s Nathan, and I’m so excited to be serving as a team leader this coming year! One of my biggest passions is international relations and current events, so you’ll often find me looking through the news so I can keep up with what’s going on in the world. As such, I joined tjMedia’s newspaper team so I can help keep the student body up to date with happenings around the school.

My favorite part about journalism is that it allows me to learn about things that I didn’t even know existed before - for example, my experience writing an article about the Spanish Culture Club’s Thanksgiving Feast was the first time I’d heard of the club. I was a staff writer last year, writing everything from sports features to music reviews. When I’m not busy trying to push out my next article, you can find me debating as part of our Model UN team, practicing the piano, or frantically trying to study for a test. In the future, I intend to pursue a career either in international relations or business." - Nathan Mo, Team Leader

"Hi everyone! My name is Connie Ryu, and I’m a Team Leader for tjTODAY in the 2020-2021 school year. This is my first year being a part of the editorial board, but I’ve been an Eighth Period staff member since my sophomore year. Through journalism, I am able to share unique stories and necessary facts in order to give readers new perspectives, and I love the learning experiences that follow.

Outside of tjTODAY, I enjoy playing for Jefferson’s lacrosse team, listening to music, and spending time with my family. I also love to volunteer whenever and however I can, especially if it involves working with kids! In the future, I hope to major in biology or biotechnology while continuing to give back to my community.

Fun Fact: I recently started crocheting while we’ve been quarantined and am slowly drowning in all of the yarn I’ve been buying!

I’m always happy to answer any questions or talk about anything, so don’t hesitate to reach out:)" - Connie Ryu, Team Leader

"Hey! My name is Christina and I’ll be a team leader for tjTODAY in the 2020-2021 school year! I started working on staff as a freshman, and in just one year, journalism has taught me so much. It’s made me more informed about our school and has motivated me to seek out news on a larger scale. Interviewing has also allowed me to meet people that never fail to surprise me with their remarkable stories and unique perspectives, which I can only try to convey through my writing.

Outside of journalism, I participate in TJ Track, Ethics Bowl, and Congressional Debate. I also like to read cliche romance novels, workout, and eat sugary sweets in my free time. Fun fact: my middle name is Paris:) In the future, I hope to incorporate my interests in neuroscience, psychology, and philosophy into a law career.

Stay safe and happy TJ!" - Christina Lu, Team Leader

"Hi! I’m Aafreen Ali, and I’m one of the Team Leaders on tjTODAY’s 2020-21 staff! I’ve been involved in the journalism community as a staff writer since my freshman year. Since joining the staff, I’ve enjoyed writing for the magazine and sharing the unique stories of the students at TJ. Through writing for tjTODAY, I’ve learned so much not only about writing and design, but also about people, and how important each of our stories is in contributing to our collective understanding of the world.

In addition to tjTODAY, I’m part of the TJ Writing Center, TWIST, and UNICEF. Fun fact about me: I’ve been to 16 countries!

In the future, I hope to go down the medical path majoring in biomedical sciences and pursuing journalism as a minor. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas- I’d be happy to help:)" - Aafreen Ali, Team Leader

"Hi! 🤠 My name is Minjoo, and I’ll be tjToday’s In-Depth Editor for the 2020-2021 school year. This year will mark my fourth on staff—previously, I’ve served as a staff writer and a team leader. Journalism has allowed me to explore both my interests and those of the student body—I enjoy bringing to light new perspectives and ideas to expand my own multi-faceted outlook on the world while doing the same for my community. There’s a story behind everything, and it’s my goal to tell as many as I can.

Outside of journalism, I’m a member of 2021 class council, JNHS, TJ cheer, and the NHS leadership team. In my free time, I volunteer at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, tutor students, play cello, get traumatized by Chloe Ting, and post my (hopefully funny) thoughts on twitter (follow me! @mnjoosong).
Fun fact: My favorite punctuation is an em dash—what's not to like?
Fun fact 2: it's my birthday today lol" - Minjoo Song, In-Depth Editor

"Hi, I’m Annika and I’m an Online Editor-in-Chief for the 2020-21 school year. I have been a part of the staff since freshman year and was previously a member of the social media team.

I love journalism because it is important in educating people on issues and giving them a completely truthful view of what is going on in the world. Through journalism, I am able to learn about new topics through multiple new perspectives.

Outside of tjTODAY, I am a member of the speech/forensics team, FHS, color guard, and the crew team.
Fun fact: I can’t boil water.

In the future, I hope to continue pursuing journalism. I am looking forward to my next year with tjTODAY!" - Annika Duneja, Online Editor-in-Chief

I love journalism because it allows me to see the school from a myriad of different views, and in the future, I hope to continue to expand my worldview through whatever I study and do.
Outside of journalism, I am a member of the Bird and Wildlife Club and Model UN. In my free time, I like to follow sports, read, and explore the outdoors. When I grow up, I hope to visit every US National Park." - Anuj Khemka, Online Editor-in-Chief

"Hi! My name is Vikram Achuthan and I’m an Online Editor-in-Chief for the 2020-21 school year. I joined tjTODAY as an Eighth Period staff member in my freshman year, and I decided to take the class as a junior. Last school year, I was a Team Leader. In addition to working with tjTODAY, I am a member of the tjSTAR committee. Outside of school, I play the piano and Tabla. I intend to major in Computer Science, and I am interested in learning more about blending computer science with data journalism.

I enjoy writing articles that bring new perspectives and reactions to an issue, and my experience over the past three years with tjTODAY has shown me that good journalism is vital to bringing about change and helping our communities make informed decisions. I am excited to begin my new role with tjTODAY, and continue to help cover stories that matter to the TJ Community!" - Vikram Achuthan, Online Editor-in-Chief

"Hey guys! I’m Stuti, an Editor-in-Chief of tjTODAY for the 2020-2021 school year. I’ve been a part of tjTODAY since my sophomore year and was a team leader last year. What I love the most about journalism is its versatility. There are so many different fields you can combine it with; we can each take our own interests and find our own narrative. In the future, I hope to be a computational journalist by double majoring in computer science and journalism or political science.

Outside of journalism, I love to code, draw, play the piano, dance, and binge watch a few of my favorite shows. Fun fact: I’ve watched Friends at least 3 times but I still haven’t watched Avengers Endgame.

Feel free to reach out to me if you ever have any questions or want to share any thoughts :))" - Stuti Gupta, Print Editor-in-Chief
