Media Planning Tip #5: Double check how relevant your research is!

When media planning, you need to start with sound data. When you don't start off with sound strategy and research, it will cost you with mistakes and inefficiency in the end. Use processes like explaining your reasoning out loud, working with a partner or other ways to double check your logic and strategy before you go too far!

Once you are confident in understanding your research results you'll be much more confident in every other aspect of your media plan!

Time for another media planning tip!

When looking at data, always start with an objective in mind and evaluate the relevancy of data based on the objective. Inspect your data for variables that relate to your topic. Focusing on a brand awareness campaign? Look for information about the reach of your media choices. What other data could strengthen your understanding of an issue? Is your data descriptive enough? Think outside the box!

In an incredibly challenging year for students, families and businesses, because of our supporters, we've been able to fulfill our mission of providing scholarships and support to students who seek careers in media and policy.

Student need is greater than ever this year. Scholarship applications to our Media Fellows scholarship program has more than doubled. Many students who had previously been in good--or at least decent--financial standing, are now wondering how to pay for their books and tuition. So many qualified students applied that while we will award more than 60 scholarships this year, without additional support, we will not be able to offer additional scholarships in 2020 to any more outstanding students who seek to join our industry.

You can help. If you or your company are able but have not yet supported Washington Media Scholars Foundation with a donation in 2020, we hope that you will consider making your gift by tomorrow, Giving Tuesday. Visit www.mediascholars.org/donate/ to make your contribution. 100% of your contribution is tax deductible.

And to the the donors who have already given in 2020, please accept our many thanks.
