From Western New England University, Damien Hooper is a semifinalist in team WGNABB.

Damien is using the competition experience to further his marketing skills in preparation for a job in sports management. He would other students to enter future competitions because it is a nice resume builder and is a great opportunity to practice and hone marketing skills and capabilities.

She decided to enter the Media Plan Case Competition to try something new and test her abilities. In addition to in class learning, the competition allows students to grow their understanding of media planning by having them solve a real-world challenge using data and decision making used by media professionals working in the industry today.

Why join? "Honestly my partner asked if I wanted to and I said “why not?”. I knew it would be a good way to challenge myself outside of my studies. Richard Doyle, a semifinalist from Grand Valley State University, entered the Media Plan Case competition because of his passion for all things media. He plans on working in the industry and saw the competition as a great opportunity for me to learn more about it by putting my own skills to the test.

"The scholarships are so different than many others in the fact that you truly get a chance to demonstrate your skills in a way that is fun and insightful. You walk away learning something new.

The Qualifying Round
November 30, 2016 - February 13, 2017

The top 20% of qualification round entries — a maximum of 30 teams — will be invited to participate in the 2017 Media Plan Case Competition. Of the 30 teams, six will be chosen to compete in Washington, DC for the National Excellence in Media Award and $16,000 in scholarships.

Case Competition
February 27 - March 29, 2017

Teams of two have four weeks to create a strategic media plan based on a hypothetical special election referendum or public policy issue.

June 3-9, 2017: Media Scholars Week-

The six finalist teams from the Washington Media Plan Case Competition travel to Washington, DC to participate in Media Scholars Week. Expenses are covered by the Washington Media Scholars Foundation. Previously, Media Scholars have met with professionals from the Wall Street Journal, CNN, Politico, Time Warner Cable and Gannett Broadcasting.

June 8, 2017: Networking Reception-

The winning team receives approximately $5,000 per person in scholarship awards. Additionally, winners receive the National Excellence in Media Award to be presented at a networking reception held at the Newseum. The first runner-up team receives approximately $3,000 per person in scholarship awards.
