Mission: Helping purpose-driven organizations tell unforgettable stories.

Being consistent with putting out content is key to being successful online, but often it's hard to consistently put out content.

The key is identifying how much time you can spend producing content and figure out how to produce content within that amount of time.

So if you have 4 hours or 15 minutes a week, you can produce something within that amount of time. Just make sure you budget your time correctly.

"The people who you can help the most will naturally be attracted to you, if the way that you've presented yourself makes sense to them" @melissademplephotography In this week's episode photographer Melissa Henry, talks about how use use images to show up and build your personal brand.

During this time, no one is doing professional shoots, but what you can do is think through how you want to communicate how you can help people and come up with ways of creating photos on your own that communicate that.

Melissa provides some great examples of how she has pivoted her business right now and is also coaching people through video calls on ways to get great images of themselves. Check out the full podcast for more great tips!

04/01/2020

Right now almost everyone is at home right now, but photographer @mary.dougherty brings us some important things you can do as business owners to keep things moving and connecting with people.

First this is a good time to clarify who you are. This might have changed some, but think about how you want to communicate to others who you are.

Second make sure you are showing up for people. Add value and make sure people can see you. If you disappear for three months people will wonder where you went.

Third, take the time to set up virtual coffee dates with people everyone shares something in common and it’s that we are all deeply affected by Covid 19. And people want to connect and learn about what’s happening.

In the latest episode Wesley sits down with designer and Houghton College student Tim Paschalis to talk bout what it's like being a designer in the digital age and about why it's important to share behind the scenes with your work.

Often with platforms like Instagram we treat it needs to be highly curated version of ourselves. Which in many ways it is an art gallery and no one wants to post bad art, but there are ways of showing behind the scenes or telling the back story to show that we make mistakes and grow.

And when we can do that, people will connect to us better. So while it is tempting to put our best side up, be more diligent about posting authentic content and being open about your struggles, while showing how you overcame them.

This is a quote from @tessschilkephotography in episode 23 of the podcast.

There can often be a temptation to either not show up at all when you run a creative business or have all of your posts be about other people.

But people want to know who you are. Find a good balance. #contentstrategy #podcast #instagramfeed #digitalmarketing #contentmarketing #socialmediastrategy #digitalbusiness #podcasting #coaching #instagram

@tess.schilke was all excited about track season until she got hurt and was out for the season. Did she sit around and mope?

No she decided instead to start a photography business at 16!

Her goal? Post one photo on her page for an entire year! After a year of doing work for free and having people invite their friends to her page, @tessschilkephotography was born.

In the latest episode of No Fat Cats Wesley travels back to his Alma Mater @houghtoncollege for part 1 of 2 for a series of interviews with Gen Z creatives who already have creative businesses while still in school.

In this episode we go over Tess' strategy for Instagram, the CRM she uses for managing clients and her overall thoughts about email, marketing, and the need to be personalized with all of your communications.

There are really only seven basic story that we really ever tell.
You have two options, you can either spend a lot of time figuring out the story that you want to tell and thinking you are just being creative, or you can figure out which of these story types your story is, and save yourself a lot of headache.

Since using this formula @brycemcnabb_official has won 3 regional Emmy Awards and 2 Automotive Communication awards for his documentary-style marketing videos.
If you embrace this concept, you will be able to focus your energy on telling the story in a creative way, rather than just grinding your wheels.

Thanks to @storygatherings and @harrisiii for putting together the Story Gathering, which is where we met!

What do you love doing? Do you get to do it at least 20% of the time with your current position or job? Being able to be creative and do what we love is so important and no one wants to look back at a year and regret all of the things that they wanted to do, but didn't. Let's make sure that 2020 is the year that you passionately pursue those things that you love and that are important to you.

This podcast is broken down more like an audiobook with short chapters and deliberate periods for reflection. 4:09-Chapter 1: What Do You Love Doing? — 12:37-Chapter 2: Did You Do Everything Last Year that You Wanted to? — 15:43-Chapter 3: Saying No — 20:22-Chapter 4: The 20% Challenge — 26:11-Chapter 5: Habit Stacking and Planning — 37:10-Conclusion and References

Have you ever felt stuck at your job? Well Christa Davis’ motto is “Love it or Leave it”.

In this episode on leadership and coaching we provide three questions to ask yourself:

Do I feel unmotivated, when I normally don’t feel like that?
Am I rationalizing my current state and saying, “I’m trying to make it work”?
Do I feel stuck in a box of habitual thinking?

Then check this episode out.

Some other great quotes:

“You can be good at strategy… but if you don't do the inner work, and you're not able to actually connect with your team and mobilize them and lead them. You're only going to go so far.”

“I think the first thing for leaders is to do their own inner work. Because they can only take their teams in their organizations as far as they've taken themselves.”

“Leaders really need to be that example and lead with being vulnerable, making it a safe space to make mistakes.”

“Especially for leaders, also sharing their own stories of failure, and being open about those and what they've learned from them.

“I think people like the concept of innovation, but sometimes they don't like the process of going through innovation.”

Displaced - Immigration Stories at the Border

“Please try to pray and try to walk with the vulnerable especially women and children. I do not understand the roots or the causes of these conflict or this crisis. But you can not turn your back. We have to reach out. Whatever the reason is, why they are coming massively, It's not a matter of walls. If any of us, put ourselves in their shoes and walk more than 1000 miles to come to this border, it means that they had strong motivation. If they had fair conditions in their places, they wouldn't migrate."

After having a blast producing video and being able to travel around to different places, I've realized that what people really need help with is strategy. All over I see people making strategy level mistakes that they could be avoiding if they spent a little bit more time planning, rather than just jumping in and filming without a plan.

Our creative team got the chance to film a legacy video for a family this weekend in Ohio. Being a filmmaker, you get to get a little glimpse into someone else's 'snowglobe' they call life. We sat down and heard their stories from their roots in small town Ohio and all the way to how they got connected with an orphanage and a recovery place for victims of human trafficking in India; a place that ultimately became their second home. The coolest part about the project is that because we put a large chunk of our time into pre-production and strategy, each interview questions and shot had a purpose under the larger goal.

"When you are looking for a home, you aren't just looking for a house, you are also buying into a neighborhood. The Goodhart Group wants to make this process easier for people who are looking to move into Alexandria by being able to include great neighborhood shots whenever they list home for sale.

To get those great shots that will want to make you explore a location more, they reached out to InterMotion Media since we share a coworking space with them. We felt that the right person to carry out their vision was wedding and traveling photographer Zach Murphy.

He knows the area some, but because he isn't here all of the time, he can still bring an outsider's eye to the shoot. It's easier to notice things that are unique and beautiful about an area when you aren't constantly surrounded by them.

After a week of shooting during the spring transition from cherry blossoms to leaves, Zach had almost 600 gorgeous photos for Goodhart to choose from when doing promotions or home listings.

If you need content to help you with your communication needs, send us a message.

Also if you are looking to live in Alexandria, or the area, we highly recommend The Goodhart Group at Compass to help you find not just a house, but a home.
