Cigar & Spirits Magazine Presents The 9th Annual Toast for Toys Fundraiser
Newport Beach, CA— Breahna Wheeler, Director of Events for Cigar & Spirits Magazine spoke today about the Toast for Toys Annual Holiday Fundraiser. “We’re so excited to announce this exclusive event is scheduled for Thursday, December 12th at the Bistango Restaurant in Irvine,” says Wheeler. “Attendees are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys to the event, and we’ll take care of the rest by providing some of the world’s greatest spirits and premium cigars.”
Toast for Toys is the perfect lifestyle event to celebrate the holidays while giving back to the community. The donated toys are given to a local fire station and distributed to underprivileged children and teenagers in the area.
The annual event provides an intimate setting that showcases top brands in the spirits and cigar industries. This is the perfect holiday party for consumers to experience some of the best cigars and spirits, and participate in a great cause!

Recently, we had the opportunity to enjoy the elegant
pairing of the Balmoral Añejo XO Nicaragua Gran Toro and
the Zacapa Edición Negra Rum.

The Balmoral Nicaragua features a standout Nicaraguan
habano wrapper. Hiding a touch below, there’s a Cubanseed
Brazilian wrapper over three fillers: Dominican Olor tobacco from Estelí, Nicaragua and the brand’s signature stalk-cut Brazilian Mata Norte tobacco.

The Balmoral Añejo XO Nicaragua Gran Toro is complex.
It smokes through with a formidable and bold ash. Notes
of hazelnut and spicy pepper are punchy and pleasant to
the palate.

The Zacapa Edición Negra is an expertly blended spirit,
aged with 6 to 24 years of rum blends. It’s a beyond tasty Zacapa expression with evident notes of fruit and smoky
cocoa. The rum blends work in harmony with the rich oak
and sweet espresso of the cigar.

This pairing is visually appealing, too. The elegance of
the Balmoral Nicaragua, with its luxury coat and the
rich copper tones of the spirit are relaxing to the eye.
The combination of all these elements made for quite a
pleasant hour for all involved.

We recommend you break out this pairing at your next

Hiram & Solomon Cigars are eye-catching when you see them on retail shelves. They are emblazoned with the Freemason’s Geometry logo—the crimson, blue or purple bands have an air of elegance.

With a Brazilian wrapper and Indonesian binder, the blend of the filler is an interesting combination of Nicaraguan and Paraguayan tobacco—do I have your attention with that?

The Veiled Prophet is rich and dark-chocolatey on the palate with just enough sweetness. It’s balanced with subtle bitterness that is filling and flavorful. Notes of pepper arrive with leather and wood spice, but all the way through, that dark chocolate richness remains. This is a full-bodied cigar which is balanced between woody, peppery, sweet and
chocolatey.

I paired the Veiled Prophet with Albert Michler’s Reserva 1863 Austrian Empire Navy Rum, distilled in Barbados with blends ranging in age from five to twelve years. Together with our Veiled Prophet’s chocolate, there’s a touch of cocoa in the rum, too, but mainly chewy molasses, caramel and sherry.

This rich and complex aged rum pairs perfectly with the complex Veiled Prophet.

HOYO LA AMISTAD AJ FERNANDEZ DARK SUMATRA
MAKER’S MARK 46

AJ Fernandez’s name has become quite the value-add for more and more cigar companies lately. From his own New World blend to the H. Upmann “teal label” series, to this stick from Hoyo—the La Amistad Dark Sumatra.

Sleeved from label to foot in cedar, this cigar is encased in an oscuro wrapper and is absolutely filled with captivating scents from before you even cut and light. The wrapper has notes of damp leaves, earth and wildflowers, and is a complex and unique smoking experience.

Fernandez’s blends are united with their pepper notes, and on the light, cracked black pepper is prominent, but the earthier notes from the tobacco blend waft in, too. There’s a touch of chocolate, and green tea joins the party along with that signature pepper. The combo tickles the nose and rests on the roof of your mouth.

The rich, oily wrapper remains flavorful and sturdy throughout.
To pair with the La Amistad, I grabbed an equally spice-heavy whiskey in Maker’s Mark 46. Maker’s developed this bourbon by granting it an additional aging period in special casks which include extra-charred staves, adding a spicy cinnamon bite to the familiar Maker’s Mark sweet-wheat profile. Together with Mr. Fernandez’s latest creation, Maker’s Mark 46 is bold and pairs wonderfully as an equal on the spice front with La Amistad.
