Cocktail Corner: China Town Lemons

Smokin' Sips by Tony Pec, co-founder of "Y Not You Media," a Forbes-
accredited digital marketing and social media agency.

Ingredients:
• 1 ½ oz bourbon
• ¾ oz limoncello
• ½ oz Orgeat almond flavored syrup
• ¾ oz fresh lemon juice
• 1 dash Angostura Bitters
Directions:
• shake all ingredients with ice in a mixing glass
• strain into a coupe glass
• garnish with a lemon twist

With the brand stretching back for five generations, Placencia dates back to mid-1800s Nicaragua. With farms in Honduras and Nicaragua, the brand chose to make Placencia’s Alma del Cielo a true Nicaraguan puro. This stick leans medium to full, but it’s all velvet on the tongue.

This is chocolate to start, followed by espresso and a hint of leather. Alma del Cielo has an earthy undertone as well, and the smoke is rich and creamy throughout. Centinela’s Añejo 3 Años is an aged tequila that’s been resting enough to pick up vanilla, caramel, and a mellow spice from the cask. The toasted agave is there, sure, but softened and rounded with age. The finish is smooth, with just enough bite to keep things interesting.

This pairing is a happy marriage between cigar and spirit. The cigar’s chocolate and espresso notes match the tequila’s caramel and vanilla, while the agave spice adds a little kick. Each sip washed over the palate, letting the cigar’s complexity shine through. As the cigar evolves, so does the tequila—oak, spice, and sweetness all harmonizing. It’s a pairing that’s all about balance— rich, layered, and endlessly satisfying.
