After a month of Mondays, I woke up to Tuesday. What a surprise. I depend on our local weather FB page to remind me what day it is. He is very good at it. But once he was wrong. Imagine that! He had the wrong day and my calendar got messed up for a week.

But now with the launch of the new website for our pop-up bookstore, I am no longer able to rely on him. I must verify the day of the week when I wake up, align myself with my list of things to do, get some deep breathing and stretches done and start my day.

And the day stretches ahead with me in charge of what I can do. Slowly, it becomes a rather pleasing palette of colorful tasks. The more vibrant colors mark what I look forward to doing. The less vibrant colors, the tans and grays, must be done and when they are they take on the brightness that comes with pleasure. A job done. A sigh of relief. Onto the next. The next comes onto each little step through the day.

Out of this rather defined way of life, a novel is growing. Coming to full life. Living within me and on the page.

Look for word if it here and eventually we’ll get to that stage of announcing it for presale on ’Bookshop page and website. Everything works in concert to make the novels come into being.

If you haven’t seen it yet, the new website is quite lovely. Please take a look. Thanks.

On this site you can order books directly from us or from bookshop.org *We are in business for: The animals. Your health. The planet. This site is where you can order the books we carry at the pop-up* and books we recommend*. We ship directly to you from our stock. You can find our...

I think I am a damn genius, too. I’ve been writing Born Loser, Born Lucky, Inc. with the help of my crazy imagination. In this novel’s world, all life of the resistance to oligarchic control is lived in an Underground that is completely self-sufficient. It has learned an ancient system of food production and support systems based on fungi growth, mycelium transmission and the healing and restorative power of mushrooms. As the Topsider world is being corrupted and destroyed for the continued riches and power of the oligarchs, the Underground is maintaining itself and working to heal those systems Topside that will be necessary for their rising up and rescuing of the world.

Watch your step, I say, as you walk in the woods. Those mushrooms you see may be the messengers from the Underground plotting to free you from corporate control.

In the meantime:

Underground greenhouses are helping people to take back control of their nutrition and ease farming amid the climate crisis

Taking Stock

It’s been a healthy year for Deborah Emin Books. Lots of good responses to the completion of the Scags Series. Lots of work done to the next series of books I am writing.

All this writing helped me teach better. I think that may be due to the confidence instilled by finishing that four.volume series.

Yet, there is another side to this story of me. That part concerns how many stories get written but do not get finished. And that’s the new major hurdle and it may seem of little significance to some but to me, it is a kind of truth I am not comfortable sitting with.

For the time being, until I find a better strategy, I will be using an old word press account to post these essays and stories. I’ll make that known soon. I have other ideas about presenting a rather large body of work that has been growing, untended to and has now become a burden to hang onto.

It’s interesting how the world changes. By that I mean, the internal world. It faces more outward and has less of a need to protect itself. More trust, I presume, leads to greater confidence. I am holding that thought closely now.

Please stay tuned for some new work on a different channel.

The imagination has no time boundaries or any boundaries whatsoever. How we access our imagination is the key to how we create our lives.

Too many of us are restricted by fear to fully access what we have, what is a vital part of our whole being and which gives us the ultimate connection to life.

Without using, living in and practicing what our imagination allows us, we are shallow hulls of life. But I also need to add that the imagination is alive and thus needs food.

It is voracious. It eats more than we can most likely feed it in our lifetimes. But it needs to be fed. What does it eat?

First of all, it eats the obvious. It eats experiences.

Then it eats what we commonly call the arts and culture.

But it has spiritual hungers and demands to be connected to every question we can ask.

The thing about the imagination is this—it never judges. It cannot dismiss anything. Its curiosity is as voracious as its appetite.

The only way to maintain our connection to this fabulous organism is to feed it. That is all it asks.

As we take from its storehouses, we must restore its riches.

We can add to its riches by showing up. By being present always to all that flows around us.

We can make good use of its riches by learning whatever skills we need to translate its goods into the common vernacular.

And for our own mental balance, we need to learn to read the room.

This is the tricky part. Because what our imagination has to offer may not fit the moment of its appearance. By knowing how to read the room, we can spare ourselves a great deal of pain.

What we may produce out of that infinite imaginative pool may not be right for the moment. We also may not have created it to its best performative value.

However, if we can read the room, we are able to see that whether its acceptance means as much as having gotten it before the room. What pleases the creator is not a divine sign of acceptance. But the finishing of a project and the knowledge gained from that is the very food the imagination thrives on.

The imagination, therefore, is a regenerative being. Diversity and care, birth and death all fall within its cyclical patterns.

I believe we live the fullest and most peacefully when in relation to our imaginations. It is a force that lives with or without our collaboration. But without choosing to collaborate, we choose to deny our own life force.

We may have looked like we were hibernating here at Deborah Emin Books. But not so. Under cover of darkness, work proceeds on Born Loser, Born Lucky, Inc.

It’s a long, involved story, this first volume of these Books Inspired by Scags Morgenstern. Yet, once this foundational volume is published, what follows is very different and weaves together stories of intrigue based on several major industries, beginning with the health care industries.

Dr. Mom, Inc. is a two-fisted set of medically infused stories. One about the career of tv personality, Dr. Mom, who is the mouthpiece for a specific type of medical supervision by the government. The below-the-radar of stories, is about a former intelligence officer’s rare onset of dementia and how the government works with and against itself to solve the mystery of this woman’s dementia.

What holds these two stories together is Sophie’s involvement. How she insinuates herself into these two different situations happening simultaneously and how she uses the magic of The Underground to heal, repair and connect various elements of the Topside to pursue an insurrection against the Greatest Shareholders.
