Recorders To Rockets: Connecting Music To STEM

Author Laurie Orth shared the story behind her STEM-themed music curriculum, which led to her book "Rocket Recorder," in a special blog post for Georgia Public Broadcasting. We love hearing the stories behind authors' works!

How teaching middle schoolers how to play the recorder helped them develop a love for music and space.

Happy Pride Month!

to Celebrate, check out “Traveling the Two-Lane” by Marilyn Berman!

Marilyn grew up gay at a time when homosexuality was not only illegal, but also considered a mental illness. For decades, she led a dual existence, trying to be “normal” while fantasizing about girls and women. Driving the two-lane back roads of North America, Marilyn grappled with her ever-present past and an uncertain future.

Traveling the Two-Lane is the story of these two journeys—a solo sojourn across North America and a lifetime navigating as a closeted and conflicted lesbian in a world with changing opinions about same-sex love. Witnessing the riches of nature and genius of humankind while recognizing the evils of both, Marilyn confronts her past to better live her present.

Happy Earth Day! Celebrate the day by reading “Come the Eventide” by Chris Riker. It is a story that encourages readers to reexamine their attitudes on the environment and take steps toward caring for the earth while we can.

A century has passed since the fall of humanity changed the natural landscape. The oceans are poison, and a fraction of Earth’s magnificent creatures remain.

The only surviving humans squabble over limited resources as they cling to a fragile peace. Yet in this bleak landscape hope lives on in Earth’s other intelligent life. It all begins when Septielle, a seven-armed octopod, has a vision of a world restored—a world she will not live to see.

Inspired by her vision, a dolphin named Muriel shoulders her mission and enlists any humans who will listen—including Anadare, a young islander with an ax to grind against the oppressive ruling class of tourists turned bureaucrats. An invasion of cannibalistic pirates complicates things as they declare war on a world that rejects them.

“Writing poetry is a passion, ignited by thoughts, fueled by ink. A way to travel through another mind, where souvenirs of tears are tucked away inside your soul. Or leave you with smiles for miles, depending on which route you go.”

You guys are awesome! A few months ago, I was still finishing the draft of my book and now it is available on Amazon. Many thanks for making my impossible dream come true!
I was very fortunate to find this great publishing company in Alpharetta, GA for my first novel. The entire team worked patiently & diligently with me throughout the editing/publishing process, and were always accessible via e-mail, phone, or face-to-face meeting. They were always receptive to my concerns, offering positive, helpful feedback and solutions. I could not be more pleased with the BookLogix facility, management, staff, services, and cost. The overall quality of my new novel (cover, format, paper) has exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend them to any author, new or seasoned! Michel L'Aventure
